@Billup
Your rebel XS is an excellent camera under most "normal" conditions. I have a Rebel XTi that I shot with for about 6 years before upgrading to the 6D as a preorder back in December 2012. This is one of my favorite best shots with the XTi and my EF-S 10-22 (which I highly recommend to the point of saying I regret selling it) Pier 66 View of Fort Lauderdale 2 by ddk632, on Flickr It's all in the photographer. The 6D has opened up new avenues of photography for me, such as shooting at a high shutter speed at night, catching things which would be blurred with a long exposure needed on the XTi but not needed with the high ISO capability of the 6D. But until I knew that world, the XTi was and still is an awesome camera. The crazy world of long lenses and 5DIII's and 1DX's is another whole new avenue. Until you (and I) get there, I think it's good to enjoy what we have and shoot accordingly. I've really enjoyed your contributions in the snapshot thread, keep it up! |

This looks pretty awesome for a compact. A little hipster in the delivery of the product and design, but a bright wide fixed 24mm lens that is water proof, shock proof, and compact that comes with a ringflash and Viewfinder? This could be a lot of fun to use. |

Interesting, but $200 ain't cheap. With the ring-flash, I wonder how close it'll focus for macro. I'm kinda doubting that it'll blow away the top camera-phones. I'd hate to be coming in the P&S market right now. Maybe this is Canon or Nikon under a new guise trying to move some P&S. Dave

But this has some serious fun potential (if sharp and high res aren't a main priority). I can see the ring flash being pretty cool for some indoor photography. the flash might not be harsh on face at all. For macro, unless that lens is nice and sharp, might be wasted on a small sensor compact like this, even with that flash. I do like that a 24mm fixed lens is on a pns though, thats ballsy. + viewfinder = bonus points. If they made a big sensor version of this, they might have a cult hit on their hands. |

For anyone else who shoots with an x100. Big things are coming to our aged camera.

I'm going to look into that 10-22, that picture is absolutely stunning. Thanks, I still think I am very much an amateur though, lol. You're shots are very captivating and I love the clarity. I am trying to get back out and shoot more. I agree, to enjoy it is the core, and it definitely helps take my mind off the every days stresses. |

I'll have to look into this. Unfortunately a lot of my expenses have gone into airplane tickets and traveling lately, so money has been way too tight to upgrade to a lens that I would really like to get, and this would be a good place to start.

Well after a month or so of not much photography (except family/kids stuff and a few random shots mixed in), I'm going to another CCS Motorcycle Club Racing event this weekend on Sunday, and will be better armed than before.
I've rented the Canon EF 100-400L and the 1.4x TC III TeleConverter which should be here on Friday. Will be doing the firmware upgrade for the 6D tomorrow night or Friday to get the f/8 autofocus and will be in business with 560mm setup for the track! Any words of wisdom? |

What firmware upgrade? I had heard rumors that the 6D would get f8 AF, but never saw any announcement.
EDIT: Just checked, the last Firmware update was back in April to 1.1.3. Just fixes a date/time issue. Still no f8 AF for the 6D, unless you're using Kenko TCs.

Lol that's what I get for not following POTN too closely. I thought I read they released a firmware upgrade for the 5DIII and 6D, maybe was wrong. I'll dig a bit. If I have to MF I could have gotten the 2.0x TC.
Edit: according to CanonUSA the last update was 1.1.3 on 4/9/13, so nevermind. I was sure I read somewhere it had been released, oops. http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/suppor...01e02480866b1e |

Mark, didn't you say you were able to autofocus with a 1.4x TC? (Edit just saw your edit that it was Kenko)
The 100-400 is f/4.5-5.6 -- any idea if I should be good anyway? I guess if I have to MF, I should go for the 2x |

The Kenko TC I have allows f8 AF, but it isn't always fast. You really need a good high-contrast area to aim at. Might be tough with moving vehicles.

Ah. So this is where the 1DX makes sense then.
I've emailed LR to switch to the 2.0x TC III instead. With pre-focus on one spot at f/8 or f/11 MF isn't an issue with motorcycles. Just takes more work and it's harder to switch from spot to spot on the fly if the focus distance changes. Will be interesting to see; I can always take off the TC. Just want to get those close-up shots of bikes mid-corner. Glad I posted and thanks for pointing it out btw! |

I'm looking to rent a 5D MKiii for work to supplement my 7D in november. Does anyone have a good place to rent from? I'm flying a little blind in this regard.

LensRentals.com is the most common name that comes up when this question is brought up. They also rent cameras and other equipment, not just lenses.

Borrowlenses.com is another. I've used both and they're about the same.
