Love my Induro C-414. Nice and solid and it'll fit in my suitcase to go around the world. Oh, that reminds me of something new, wifey and I celebrate 45-years this year, so we're going to Iceland, Southern England and taking the Queen Mary II back to the USA. I'll take the tripod to do some night shots. Dave

Your vacation sounds like a lot of fun! I was in Scandinavia for 2.5 weeks last month and it was amazing. I've become jealous of remmib who lives in such a beautiful country.

Taking a vacation should be higher on your priority list over getting a Series II great white though.

Iceland is beautiful Dave, have you been?
I did the whole Ring Road, plus a couple of fjords as well. Fantastic place for photography. I want to go back as I was really rusty back then, feel like I would get to redo many of the shots much better now than before. |

I went fuji x for my vacation and fun camera. The image quality is probably best in class for APS-C mirrorless. I shoot mainly full frame but this fulfills most of my casual needs fine. You can get the x-e1 and x-e2s on sale all the time, the added bonus is that they come kitted with a 700 dollar kit lens that is one of the more feature packed and sharp kits out there (28-83 equivalent f/2.8-4). The caveat is that the fuji xf lenses are not cheap. Not canon L Expensive but expect 700-1000 per prime new. If you can't live without that 35mm sensor, the the sony A7 series is your best bet. AFAIK though, lens selection isn't the best here if you're looking for native non adapted lenses. If you value your viewfinder i would keep your slr gear and get an rx100 mark iii or something to save you heft. I honestly cannot shoot without a VF. EVFs have come a long way and are excellent now, but if you were getting paid for your work and it depended on instantaneous quickness, then an SLR OVF is the only way. |

One night in Oslo... it was meh after seeing Stockholm and Copenhagen though.
Then rented a car and took some scenic routes to Bergen over 3 days. On the way, stayed in Aurland, did some cruising in Flam, and stayed in Eidfjord. It was a lot of fun, and I didn't want to come back. I could've easily driven around Norway for another week if I had the time. Where do you live?

Oh, ok, cool. Yeah, I didn't make it that far south. But, perhaps you'll recognize some of the photos from my trip as I post them here.

Just pulled the trigger (no pun intended) on a set of phottix odins, because we were sick of using dumb triggers. Very impressed so far on the customization. Being able to ettl and change power levels straight from a unit with a screen is going to make me so lazy lol.

Just ordered a Sigma 50mm f1.4 Art. Should be a low light dream. Now the waiting begins.

I was out shooting a project today that involved excavating old graves. As it got late and the sun started coming in from the side the bottoms of the graves got dark, so I had to crank the ISO and shoot wide open. That was working fine. Then I heard the unmistakable sound of twin radial airplane engines coming from the airport just behind the treeline to our south. I turned to look and was amazed to see a B-24 bomber lifting off at about 700ft and maybe a half mile away. I had my 70-200 mounted, but by the time I realized what I was seeing and then adjusted my settings, the plane was tail towards me and too far away. Trying a shot into a bright sky at 1600 ISO and f2.8 would have been futile, but I could have just flipped to the little green box and taken a shot. As I never use full auto, it just didn't occur to me to do so and I missed what could have been a cool shot.

Full auto in my experience either bumps up the ISO to unusable levels or it slows down the shutter speed to something below 1/30. Auto gets very confused by darkness.

Yeah, auto wouldn't have worked for the graves, but it may have done ok for the airplane.

I have C3 setup on my cameras for prop planes. Shutter priority at 160, ISO 100. I did that after I missed the last B-17 flyover. I also have C2 setup for birds in flight. They may not be perfect in all situations, but its nice to be able to switch to something quickly.
