IMO the announcers are f*king stupid too. All thise guys forcing each other off the track deserve penalties. They aren't racing, just relying on gravel to defeat the other driver.
Don’t agree. Driver in lead gets the line, not required to just lay down. I want to see the elbows out and a true racing fight happen.

I agree. That's what we call a non-call in sports despite the 5s penalty on NOR. If you want to take the risk, you take fall out that comes with it. From the replay, I see nothing clearly that shows PER had all the right in his position and he definitely wasn't ahead of NOR. Despite the 5s, NOR still came back and overcame his 5s penalty.

But even if you want to call that early penalty NOR fault, that didn't cause PER's other 2 5s penalties - one where he did the exact same thing. Overall, bad day for PER. Take it for what it is and move on.

Right now, PER's role is to help support VER and win the Constructors Championship and today he didn't do that.

I think it comes down to wheter PER had already (partly) passed NOR or not.
Guy in the lead (NOR, PER) is rightly committing to the corner/apex assuming full track out.

To leave a car width at track out would mean purposefully slowed entry speed, i.e., yielding to the outside pass, or maybe some braking maneuver mid corner, and again, yielding to the outside pass.

The gravel in Austria invites these unlikely outside moves. Stewards should recognize that. You don't see similar attempts at T1 Monaco.

Just because the following car may squeeze out a lead mid corner doesn't mean that the driver on the inside can (or should) necessarily adjust his racing line in reaction. Think about the implications of that. Following car throws a hail mary, gets a wing in the lead around the outside of any corner, which creates an immediate obligation on the part of the inside driver to slow, alter his line, and leave a courtesy car width?

Checo vs Lando was a great fight

But from Checo's onboard it looks otherwise...

Excellent race, another great result for Max & RB. Good result for Lando & McLaren & VB saving MB's blushes.

Lewis must be feeling a tad miffed by now
Will Lewis & MB be able to turn the tables at Silverstone?

Watch from Bottas's point of view. NOR doesn't even track out beyond the red & white curbing. Any less aggressive mid corner and getting back to throttle, he'd just be yielding...

I get it, but these guys aren't following the same racing path. The one on the inside whether in front or behind just cuts across DIAGONALLY. That's just dirty, any driver can force an avoidance or crash that way, requires zero skill, just hope the outside driver goes off track instead of into the inside driver. You see that stuff happening on the freeways every day. Race, don't play dirty.

This. It was a battle both were involved in, can only be one winner, riskier profile was trying to overtake from outside. I like to call this, wait for it, racing.

Not sure we saw the same race, or perceive what we saw the same. The “inside” driver in this instance being Lando, maintained a normal apex. This is what did not allow checo room and he went off track… had a diagonal move been made checo could have stayed on track.

Not allowed in F1!

Fan of both LEC and PER, but they went for these moves

1. Gambling/hoping the inside driver would check up and yield.
2. Because no walls.

In Perez's case, sorry to say, but really poor decision. He had the car to get it done at about 3-4 other low risk spots on the track, or with an undercut, you name it. Should have been a RB 1-2 today.

In CA and Florida you usually hear about the driver that closed the door ending up shot. Thankfully the F1 drivers can show more restraint.

I've seen it and I'm going with the stewards on this one,Checo did well to retreat in time to the gravel to avoid contact, it must be remembered also that Norris has most penalty points stored, 8 in all out of all the drivers so he is officially the dirtiest driver at the mo.
**ad. now on 10 penalty points so very close to ban.

Perception is reality holds strong applications in times, such as, always with you. If this move belongs to the dirty ones, you’d have to admit the fault of your team.

I don’t believe your boy should have been punished either. Drivers take risks and passing on the outside is one.

It may be argued that Norris forced Perez out BUT I did not see any touching between the two, nor I see a deliberate move by Norris to force out Perez.

On the other hand, I saw that Perez purposely forced out LeClerc beyond the bounds of hard racing. Started reminding me of the battles he was having with Ocon at Force India.

IMO, he had a dissapointing drive, considering what he could have achieved for RB.

Saying that, Checo probably rightly got a 5 sec for forcing Lecrash off in the first incident but not for the second one where Lec got himself into a silly kamikaze position while behind.
