Woot, just settled my press passes for Frozen Rush. I'm thinking of renting a 7DII to test it out while working. Is lenrentals.com still the go to place?

Got the same case. Haven't actually traveled with it yet, but according to TSA personnel I've spoken with, once it goes through security you can padlock it to be gate checked if need be.

I love working autoshows. No bad weather to deal with (I was outside working in -25 last week, yuck) and its so easy! Apart from shoving other photogs for a clean sight line on the Ford GT there's no bad light to contend with. They just make it so easy, because they did the light work for me!

I've got the 1510 also. Have Pelican send you an engraved nameplate. It's a nice touch, plus of course it's good to have your info on the outside. I think it's about $10

Supposedly 2 Canon 50.6MP bodies coming next week. 1 with no AA filter. I'm curious to see the price.

Heres a bit of a change of pace for you guys.
Im giving my niece my old Rebel, but I need a lens for it as the kit lens is long broken. I dont have a lot of spare cash at the moment, so this would need to be 100-200 bucks. Does anyone have experience shopping this far downmarket? Im thinking of getting her a 35mm lens. Thats roughly the equivalent to a 50 on a crop body. |

I love my 40/2.8 pancake, but I use it on a full-frame. For a crop-sensor, I'd suggest the 24mm.

Im thinking the wider angle one would be a bit more versatile, no? |

Probably so. Always hard to guess what someone else will find most useful, though.

I agree. 24mm has the angle of view of a 38.4mm on a 1.6 crop-sensor. A 40mm is equivalent 64mm. Most people are shooting for a 50mm equivalent, which neither quite delivers. I'd rather be on the wide end, but it's a personal taste matter.

If I only had a penny for each view. I released my latest on the 22nd, pics from the HS musical. I'm probably at just under 300k views for the year so far.

It is Smugmug. I feel cheated, only 48 views as of 5pm Pacific. ;-)

Shot Noise and ETTR
DPReview just posted Part 1 of a 2-part article about noise. This is one of the best discussions of Shot Noise that I've ever seen, with a clear explanation of why ETTR (Expose To The Right) can help reduce noise. See http://www.dpreview.com/articles/818...mpaign=generic

It's interesting to observe, in some forums the mention of ETTR can set of religious wars. The flat-earth group declares all kinds of sinister reasons that it can't possibly work, while I find myself in the group that say, "try it, you may like it." Dave
