Not sure what to think of this unit.....That's a lot of money for a camera body that only does 100,000 clicks. and for a camera that only takes lenses from a company that doesn't have a track record of making consistently good build quality in it's lenses.

That being said, an equivelent to a medium format idea at that price, is actually a cheap alternative. But that makes me wonder if the sigma lenses are up to the quality that sensor has the ability to produce.

5fps at that level is good though but then matched with a lower quality LCD, however, i think we depend on LCDs a bit too much these days.

I also don't think it's 45mp full-time, rather mainly for B&W. Did you catch how its sensor works?

it's technically a 15mp, however, it's not using 3 times as many pixels to provide only 15mp like our cameras would. so it's an in theory number of 45mp because it can't really be classified the same way.

if Canon were to make the 5DmkII into this type of sensor, it would be a 63mp camera in some weird way.

hehe, yeah. With the new 1D and D4 due out in the not-too-distant future, the mp's may be high enough that they might be considered medium format too.

which is kind of interesting because at prices similar to that of the Sigma, these next generation 1D and D4 type cameras might become more appealing as a result to me

however, on the other side of it, if the new 1D shares the 5DmkIII sensor in the same way the previous versions did, there's really no reason for me to look at one as you can get 90% of the same camera for about half the price.

Well, as you said... if you want the capabilities of the 5DMK3 but also with a high fps and maybe better AF, you'll need to bump up to the 1D line.

I was wondering... do any of you guys ever shoot high key photos (either by custom lighting or in post-processing)? Just curious what your experiences were.

it becomes more tempting every day i use my equipment. Something i would consider after a few paid jobs.

well... I think there's a distinction between over-exposure and high-key. High-key seems to work better in B&W, imo.

the only real distinction is a white background, the one where the wall behind her is closer to the real meaning of it. The one with the barnboard behind is just goofing around

i think it's really just a gimic by photographers who want to be different. That's how it sounds to me anyhow.

sort of a way of cheating and not needing to cover up facial blemishes because they are washed out to begin with.

I think of it more as a film trick then a digital trick.

This is a cool tutorial showing the strobe positions generally used. But, I guess you can even do this in post-processing if you don't want to play with light prospectively:

Just seems like an excuse someone with film made up because their photoshoot went wrong with film, so they created a new style to gloss over their mistake

some wedding photogs use some fantastic high-key captures for their clients. I don't think it's necessarily a mistake, rather an artistic way of seeing things.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I've read lots of reviews on the 14-24 and everyone also says it's the go to wide lens for full frame nikon users >_<!!! Has anyone used any of the wide prime zeiss lens?
