What I''m NOT ok with, even with higher end BMWs, is BMW giving M "lite" cars M mirrors, carbon roof options ( like on the M850) and, with the new X3, and option for dual exhaust. I think that's an excessive dilution of the M brand. They're almost at the point of the only differences being the engines and suspensions. 😡

M lite-lite + striped plate frames?
I recently got a '21 x3. It came with a few addons when it was new, including the M sport package that put a handful of M logos on the car (M wheels, M brake calipers, M steering wheel, M door sills, 'aero' kit etc).
A friend who owns an m4 he takes to a track got excited about it all, and was kind to gift me a few things including a pair of striped plate frames (just the stripes, no 'M'). I don't mind them, and he's mentioned he was looking forward to seeing them on the car. I don't want to seem ungrateful, but it kind of feels a little misrepresentative, especially after finding this thread? An X3 is def not a track car (more like m lite-lite by way of the M package following the logit on this thread). Should I just not use them? Or has this thread made me neurotic and I'm overthinking it? 🫠 |

It’s your car - do what you want. It’s not gonna stop us from mocking you though.

Terrible picture (end of long driveway), but this was the neighborhood "M3," before I got my G80.

Cost has nothing to do with the situation. It’s about engines and suspensions. M lite badging or license plate frame on any SUV or big boat is a joke. That X6 also costs more than some two door Porsches (used of course) but it still still doesn’t change the fact that it’s a grocery getter.

Added the lines to emphasize just how sloppy it is. Half an inch lower and not even level! The guy paid extra for the X5 50i. Perfectly respectable car as is! |

For whatever reason, it appears they tried to align the top of the M badge with the top of Xdrive 50i albeit still poorly

What's the tell? I can't tell if that's a m340i with a different exhaust, 340i with a M added, or a 330i with a new badge.

Our g20 has the M sports package, M aerodynamic package and the Track Handling Package and summer 225/255 MPS4S tires. Nice thing is the only tiny M badges are on the steering wheel and the four wheels. No M badge de-badging whereas the picture above shows a car trying to live up to fake M up-badging. I feel sorry for the car. Poor car is going to need a psychiatrist as it grows up. Last edited by M3SQRD; 05-04-2024 at 03:07 PM.. |
