I did the Ride with the Pros yesterday which is a special invitation only prior to the Wilmington Grand Prix this saturday. My financial guy who sponsors it got me in. It was brutal. 97 degrees, windy and hilly. The pros throttled back but people were dropping like flies including me. I am not ready for those temps yet. Riding in the Grand Fondo on Sunday with temps forecast for 70. This 73 year old old guy was wasted. Resting today.

Looks like it's going to rain all day tomorrow. This might be the only ride we get in this weekend. Well, we did a short arrival spin in to Greenville and back too.

Whoa! Almost 6k ft in elevation change? And here I am happy with my 10 mile road/trail ride today with 350ft of elevation change. Oy. I have a long way to go.
Nice stats, though. Looks like a great ride. I'll have to try out a pure road bike one of these days.

When climbing, the use of a HR monitor or in my case a power meter, while knowing my FTP allows me to cap my effort to a maximum power output that I know I can sustain for about 4 hours. This keeps me from blowing up mid ride. There is a finite amount of musculature and cardiovascular power available for any given block of time. Knowing that end point allows you to manage that power for the duration of your ride. Use it for speed, endurance, climbing, etc... Capping the power output when climbing tacks on some time to the ride due to slow climbing, but being from FL I'm ok with that. Lol. Of course my gearing and some of these grades getting up to 9% and 10% forced a higher watt expenditure for those sections. That or fall over. Haha. You'll get there. Just keep pedaling!

Did a really fun route before checkout this morning.
Had a very steep climb in the beginning but the rest were lots of fun!

Kind of funny the results page show the women doing 96k course. With their time on that distance their avg MPH would have been 27.8. Clearly they did a shorter course. haha

I rode the Chrono (TT) event at one of the qualifying rounds for the UCI Gran Fondo World Series this weekend just passed.
I won my Age Group (19-34) by a whole minute and narrowly missed out on the overall win by 40 seconds. Qualified for the World Final in Albi, France in August where I'd like to be crowned amateur world champ! |

I must say that road cycling has taught me to be disciplined..i am still a beginner and what makes it amazing is: you're fast, you're challenging yourself, you learn the ways of the road and you learn to be more respectful when you're driving your car. The scenery, seen at your own speed, and testing your limits make it all worthwhile! Love it!
