I think PIA was the most disappointing driver in the race for me.
We all know Lando is just very bad at coping with different and changing circumstances (and at starting ), but I expected more from PIA. I think LAW had the most battles on track. With Checo (obviously ) Hammy. PIA etc etc. And he coped well with all of them I think. He definately deserves a seat, but I've said that since he replaced RIC for those few races.

It's interesting that (it was also mentioned here) that the result of the 2 alpine cars yealds 50 million because of their jump in the WCC.
But that is only peanuts in what it'll yield in extra sponsorship income next year, that'll probably 4 times that or something like that. And how much extra the team is worth now once Andretti decides to buy it at the end of the year because it's the only way to get into F1 That's gonna be one big extra fat cheque

Massively. In the Sprint, it took a team order to make him switch positions, which nearly didn’t happen. In the Grand Prix, his job was to hold Verstappen, and instead he pulls to the right to let Verstappen by. Not a cool teammate.

I've seen LEW running off track and more than once . LEW was in a fight with the rookie Liam Lawson in a slow car, and LEW lost that fight . LEW's end is near at Ferrari (!) MAX ? MAX started P17 . MAX overtook 7 cars in the first lap (!) MAX ran 17 fastest laps in this race . MAX won this race with a 19.477 sec. gap. in very tricky and heavy rain track conditions . I ? I watched the race all day , I didn't miss a single min. of the entire race day . And I will watch it again... IMHO. Mate , you didn't watched the race (!)

In a later part of the race Hamilton was making good progress, showing good stuff. He also took Perez - being too focused on Lawson - by surprise. I liked that. Wished that Hamilton would have gotten past Lawson - could have created different race dynamics.

Still processing what we witnessed earlier. A classic race that will be remembered for years to come.
So, I’m a Brit - left the UK at the start of ‘98 and I do cringe at the British bias in much of the commentary, but honestly I think anyone with any appreciation from racing can see what Max did today for what it was - utterly next level driving on a plane above every other driver today. So impressive. I do find the Max vs Lewis keyboard wars here to be superb entertainment however. Carry on everyone ;-) Last edited by RichardInCA; 11-03-2024 at 08:23 PM.. |

Peter Windsor race analysis.
Explaining how Verstappen's race lines made the difference. Also, he's puzzled by Hamilton's message to the Mercedes team at the end of the race: he questions whether it was a farewell message. I think Hamilton merely referenced that it was his last race for Mercedes at the Interlagos circuit.

Evidently you must have not watched the previous 20 years of Hamilton’s career. Remember the race he one with 3 wheels ? Or the championship he won in the rain in Interlagos ? Hamilton is equally talented.

I don't know how Verstappen could have possibly done better today. That was an all-time performance. Just flawless.

What a weekend. What a race.
The gods were against Max until the race proper. Then he really got some great luck. Things would maybe have been different without that red flag and likely made the race even more intriguing as tough as that may seem. We will never know how that would have panned out. However. Luck is only a part of it. He was remarkable. Absolutely remarkable. Well done and a well deserved win. |

How do we feel about the very, very mild penalties? Swearing results in a bigger penalty than not following the proper procedure and possibly creating a risk for marshalls. I just can't see the logic in that.

If they were/are consistent with the penalties and severity for all tracks then I have nothing to say about it, but since it has not been consistent, then expect people to keep raising this issue. |

I've been watching F1 for about 40 years now I guess, and this race easily goes into the 5 best races ever. They say rain is the ultimate equalizer, and it was just mesmerizing to see how much control Max had in the rain compared to everyone else. Everyone was sliding from time to time, but Max hardly had any problems with that while being over a second faster than anyone else, in a car that that is probably only 3rd best this year. This race rivals Donington '93 (greatest race of all time?) where Senna showed his superiority in the rain against the other world champions and against the most advanced F1 racing car ever made (Williams FW15C, also a Newey car, over 30 years ago!)

The marshalls say this is a non regular situation, but we're dealing here with professionals. And those professional drivers are then again backed up by a whole professional team and are in constant radio contact. They should know how the procedures work. We're hearing Max say on the radio: there's no green light. Why does he know that and apparently NOR and RUS dont? And regarding the tyre pressure adjustment on the car...normally an infringement of the technical directive means direct disqualification. Again, we're dealing with a complete team here who are all professionals and have done this year in year out. These infringements are all result of that they potentially give them a tactical gain. It's not that they make an infringement that immensely hampers the drivers/car performance, so it's not an 'honest' mistake. They did this to gain an advantage. It would suck for RUS and HAM, as it is not a mistake they make but a mistake from the team. Meanwhile HULK gets blackflagged because the marshalls give him a push off track. No special treatment here in this unusual race, the excuse given in the punishments of RUS, HAM and NOR. So lets see, what is the difference between HULK/Checo and NOR/RUS/HAM? Something to do with their passports? I don't know if RUS and HAM should've been more severely punished for the tyre pressure incident, but the start infringement of RUS and NOR should've imho. Those are definately drivers errors.

We're used to see Bottas, Checo and further back Barichello give way to their #1 teammate, but when those guys got hired, there was no question about their role in the team. It was to be an assisted co driver to HAM/SCH/VER, that was all clear from the beginning. And PIA sits in his own battle for 4th place, arguably 3rd, which is a big deal for someone in his 2nd year F1. The gap between PIA and LEC, or PIA and SAI was much smaller than the gap between NOR and Max. So for PIA it could go either way: finish 3rd, 4th or 5th in the WDC. If LEC gets a DNF like SAI got today, 3rd becomes a very very real possibility. And if you then have a teammate that can't even follow you, and in the race can't compete with both LEC and RUS, let alone Max...I can understand how PIA feels. I'm sure Webber warned him about just this. And NOR whining on the radio in the sprint race......uhhh when are we going to do the thing we agreed upon prior the race?!? I said it before that McLaren calls it 'doing it for the team', but in the WCC it makes no difference if PIA gets 1st and NOR 2nd, it should be called 'doing it for Lando', or doing it for 'the drivers championship'. Of course Lando thanks him after the race, but I'm sure Webber also got many many thanks. You hire a guy like Webber as manager because you don't want to be shoved in that 2nd driver role, you don't want to be a Bottas or Barichello. Today PIA disappointed me because I expected (or hoped) him to be better than RUS and LEC, but he wasn't. That he's better than Lando in chaotic circumstances, we all know that. Lando is only good when everything is going to plan. The opposite of Max, who can make the best of what looks to be the worst situation possible like no other (hint hint...something about the meaning of the Max! factor)
