Lastly, e90 wears its weight really well, just like an m2 Anyways, e46 with a lot of options might end up being heavier than basic stripped down e90. And I think most of the extra weight on e90 helped to solve subframe mount cracking issue e46 is notorious for, so that's a good thing. Anyways, didn't want this to come across as negative, I guess I just wanted to say that it must be awesome to have an m2 as a first, or second or even 10th BMW. Hope you are enjoying it but don't believe everything some internet experts say about the e90s. e90s are awesome cars.

The E46 and E92 were just bigger or heavier (or both) compared to previous cars I had owned (RX-7/MR-2/Starion/S2000/Exige/STi), but so is the M2 for that matter (biggest and heaviest car I've owned to date). I think the difference is that the M2 feels smaller than the E92 M3, and it's so rigid that you'd never know it was 3,450 lbs (90 lbs lighter than the E92 M3). I enjoy daily driving my M2, but I'd enjoy it much more if it were 3,200 lbs. |

My F80 is my first ever dip into the bmw club. (I dont count my handed down E36 328i I had for 4 months haha). I got this because I need a better daily and something with 4 doors that would fit a car seat...1st time father as of 9/30.
So 4 doors and space were necessary but I still wanted something fun, manual, and modify-able that didnt make me feel like some young punk. So here we are and I couldnt be happier.

I grew up with BMWs in my family. From my grandparents, to my aunt, then my uncle, and my parents both drove them for years. My first one was an '02 325ci that I drove up until last year when it met its untimely death (a collision.). The car gave me countless miles and left me with grins for mostly all of them. I had to act quick to replace it and wound up with a WRX. While I enjoy the new car, I am missing my BMW. So once my lease is up I am going right on back to the Germans since NO ONE does it better!
Also, relatively new here, why don't the photos show up for me? They are blurred out with photobucket watermarked. |

I purchased new in 1978 or 79 a 318i. This was a long time ago but I remember considering it to be one of the finest vehicles I had owned to that point in my life. I foolishly sold the car to buy a new motorcycle, but it remained as a great memory.

My first was an 08 328i. Didn't quite realize the joy and ended up getting rid of it for an Infiniti G37 for all of a few months before I came to my senses and got my 13 328i, then my 19 X3 M40i, and about to order a G30.

My 1st BMW
At 56 years my 1st was a simple X5 as my DD and winter car. As I do quite a lot of the work on my cars, I got to know the BMW. Shortly after I got a 650ix to replace my 32 year old Porsche as my well weather driving car. Then got the itch and replaced the 650 with a M6. The M6 is a recent acquisition so no good pics yet. Then got BMW’s for my kids in undergrad and grad level school.

My first BMW was a 2001 E46 330ci Alpine White. Absolutely loved that car. Had it for all of 6 months before a 16 year old kid ran a red light and T-boned me. RIP 330ci!

My first BMW is my present 2009 335d that I just bought 3 months ago with only 81,000 km on the clock.
It is a very nice driving car compared to the rather ordinary autos I have owned. I do admit I am scared of the complexity and potential expense of maintenance and repairs going forward. I am also a Newbie on the forum and was just wondering out loud if anyone out there can suggest where to start in the area of any tools or devices I can use to display and perhaps even log things like water temp and oil pressure and temp like the Banks 2 inch Super gauge or such , and also something I can use myself to find hidden trouble codes? It sure would be nice to have more gauges ! The Speedo and Tach just dont cut it for me! The car has just had the dpf scr and total egr delete done by my request by the shop who I bought it from and has something in the order of say a 2.5 Tune. I am thinking already of MODS - such as a Wavetrac LSD and gearing up to a 2.56 final drive instead of the stock 2.81 ratio. Just curious as to what this car cost new in Canada (or the USA) when it was Brand Spanking New ? It has most equipment , but has no IDRIVE. Was IDRIVE even a thing in 2009 335d? Please be gentle on me as I am new to "New Technology" cars. My newest car prior to this one is my trusty 2005 Passat BHW diesel with the 5 spd manual conversion. So there is my Story on my first Beemer ! Last edited by D3GUY; 12-01-2019 at 04:01 AM.. Reason: wanted to make paragraphs. |
