The first song you mentioned, Rainy Days and Mondays was written by Paul Williams, a very successful songwriter of that time. The Carpenters performed a few of his songs, including 'We've Only Just Begun'. He wrote hits for other artists too like 'Evergreen', ‘You and Me Against The World,’ Three Dog Night’s ‘An Old Fashioned Love Song’. My wife and I were in Las Vegas one time in the '70s and he was the headliner. We went to see him just to have something to do. He does not have the best voice, but he was so entertaining and had great phrasing. It was a pleasant surprise. Here's his version of 'Rain Days and Mondays': |
