This has to have been one of the worst WC in recent memory.... The officiating was so terrible on so many fronts, and so many teams performed disappointingly. Usually, there are enough positive surprises to offset the disappointments, but this cup was just so meh.

I agree. Quality of play sucked, officiating sucked, everytime I'd try and watch I'd end up wasting my time watching a suckfest. Hopefully 2014 is better

Anyway, on to the emboldened statement. This is so far from the truth, I don't know where to begin. There is a lot more than just "offensive" or "defensive" and to generalize to that extent would be something I wouldn't expect from a football expert. Just sayin'

You are right about Spain's opponents playing on their heels though. The Dutch and Germans definitely seemed to be playing back a bit on their heels, and ended up getting beaten to balls in space (bad porn?). Spain had some good passing and hustled to the 50/50 balls much better than their opponents. They were the better team in both games, and played with a proactive style instead of relying on reaction like the Germans and Dutch did for some reason.

I would be scared shitless of playing Spain. If you breathe on them once, yellow card. Breathe on another player and you're sent off for your 2nd yellow. I would hate to have to deal with that.

All the people was saying Germany for the win. When they played Spain what happen? honestly i think we do our best match and deserve the victory. Why? said many times, the only team wich do a fair play and attack. This is when Spain can do his game. Just check, when we score our first goal and the oponents got the need to attack were the time we play better, like Portugal.

Well I had always wondered why most of the South American teams were so good at diving and embellishing. After watching Spain play, I've determined it is not the fault of the South American coaches or players, as it must be a genetic trait donated by the Spanish. <-- Don't get butthurt. But, yeah the Netherlands was playing pretty dirty. However, there were just a lot of theatrics in there too. It doesn't mean I don't believe they should have won, but I just despise players who pull that shit. As a former player, I hated that shit. It didn't seem to happen all that much here in the states, but when I played over in Switzerland, it was ridiculous (especially the Portuguese immigrant players on our own team; there were only two ways you were going to get the ball from them. You could wait for an opposing player to come close enough for them to embellish a foul and hope the ball comes to you, or they try to dribble all the way down the field themselves and take a terrible shot from a terrible angle, which sails 20m high or wide. /rantinparentheses)

But, like others have said, the cup's over. Spain was the best team, and they won. Congratulations to Spain. It really doesn't matter how you win it, or what it took to get there, the fact is that they won. No use in arguing over who deserved it or why.

Ya you're right i must not know anything about it. I mean i've only been watching it since i was 4 years old. I know the difference between defensive and offensive plays duchebag. And yes you can play beautiful soccer without spaces. Spain can't but other teams can, you know why? because they rarely cross and rely on midfield to advance. So when there is a team playing decent defense spain gets stuck and doesn't know what to do. Which has been the case for most of this cup hence the single goals in each game. Now let's just wait and see what happens in 2014. France and Italy should be a foreshadowing.

Dunno man.... I think the South American powerhouses could have hung with Spain at their own game.... Netherlands and Germany tried to take the very northern Euro style to the pitch, and it bit em in the ass because they didn't work hard enough.

The SA teams, when they're not laid out on the pitch crying like babies, play Spain's game very well. It would have been interesting to see a matchup like that pan out, but unfortunately it did not.
