My current car has been my first BMW and it's been a double edged sword going with a 5 series as it's set the bar for my expectations with the brand making me only want more luxury.

My first car was the 2006 BMW M3 E46, and I'm still driving it now. I planned to buy my wife a BMW X5 in 3 months, hoping to make a surprise on her birthday.

I got my first Bimmer back in the summer of '98 - a little 2002 that I've made my own and still enjoy the hell out of. I think I've shared it before in another thread here..
My 435iX GC is my second-ever BMW.

1976 I think a 2002, then I strayed for a number of years and had various Volvo's a couple of Merc's and then back to BMW in 1999 and stayed loyal ever since and I'm glad I did

2008 bought tricked out 1996 328. The guy I bought it from had suspension mods for the track, with a 3.91 final drive that was pretty extreme in daily driving and really loud exhaust. Ended up picking up M3 diff that was perfect. Did clutch and a bunch more fixes and mods that had me intimately aquatinted with BMW E36 strengths, weaknesses and quirks.
Lets see, has expansion tank blow up and overheat, had fan blade launch thru the hood. Diff cut loose from mounts, clutch slave gave way and more I can't remember. But man did I miss that car when I sold it. Still the best handling car ive ever driven. Fast forward to 2016 and picked up a '98 540 6 speed. Did pretty much everything to that, suspension overall, eibach sway bars, BC racing coil-overs, Zionsville radiator, UUC clutch and short shifter, 2 batteries, starter, rebuilt AC system, rebuilt paper steering system with M5 steering box, redid all door actuators, (im getting tired just remembering and listing this stuff). Car finally broke my heart and wallet when timing chain cut loose. I know, should have had that done early on (car had 160,00 when it broke). but man, the car was so fun to drive with 6 speed manual, it felt like a smaller car the way it handled. Made me lust for E39 m5 a bit, which I may someday find one to have. That car got sold whole in 2019 as parts car to M5 owner as donor car Fast forward to yesterday, 08/04/2020 and just picked up an absolute mint 2016 340i with only 29,000 mi on her. The car looks brand new inside and out. It will be my first "modern" BMW, loaded with all the bells and whistles including track handling package. Its an auto, but a really capable 8 speed that shifts lighteng quick, and its the fastest car ive owned to date. Lots of technology to figure out, but in Sport+ mode, manual shift mode, it feels like a BMW should. |

First BMW was a 2000 528i M Sport, loved that car and daily drove it for a number of years.
Second would’ve been a E90 M3 but ended up with a B7 RS4 due to dealer negotiations. Still a great car and I enjoyed the hell out of it. Currently daily driving and loving my M2C. |

My first BMW was a 1993 325is. I kept this thing for 6+ years and DD it forever. Had just a tick over 200k on the original paint in the driveway shot. Miss it often...

My first BMW was a 2001 E39 530i M Sport in individual Technoviolet. I’d always wanted an E39 and wasn’t shopping for a purple one but that’s what I ended up with. I did grow to love the colour and found that it really turned heads.
To date, it is still my favourite car. It was written off when I was rear ended just over a year into my ownership. I’d love to own an E39 M5 one day. I had an E61 530i after that, which was I loved, but not as much as the E39. |

Which point was that?
My first car was a '67 VW Beetle in 1969. I think it cost around $1000. I was 16 and paid for it with my summer-job earnings. My first BMW was a '71 R50/5 purchased in 1971. It cost $1,400 brand new. I was 18 and paid for it with summer job earnings and a small bank loan. My first BMW car was a '69 1600 purchased in 1971 during college. It cost $1,295 used. I paid for it with a bank loan. From then to now, you simply have to move the decimal one place and you get to my most recent 128i M-sport 6-speed purchase. Even college tuition between my first year in college and my eldest daughter's first year was a decimal-place difference, and she's now 33-years-old. God only knows what her Masters degree cost her over the past three-years, but she never asked for a dime! |

My first car wasn't a BMW either. My post before was just a typo, relax.
Just saying that a lot of the (VERY nice examples of) people's first BMW's are bloody expensive. That all. Observation not judgement. No idea why you seem to have taken this so personally. Sorry if I gave the wrong idea! |

First BMW is my current '13 328i F30 Luxury Line. She's slowly getting upgrades as time permits.
