Front splitter is finally installed!

Excuse the masking tape as I’m putting pressure on the 3M tape until it tomorrow so it has time to properly bond. There is one photo before I put the masking tape but the angle isn’t great

Better photos tomorrow!

Also, if you attach the splitter to the original holes, it will sit much further back than how it’s shown in the photo below, making it barely visible.

I’ve pre-aligned it to match the splitter position as shown on the M35i and it looks much better, but now this means I’ll need to drill holes in the front bumper instead of using what was already available.

Installation will happen tomorrow
Do u mean we have to drill the 3 middle holes on splitters or our bumper to fit the splitters nicely? I will be receiving mine today 🤗

If you want the placement to be like the M35i, you will need to drill 4 holes into the bumper. The splitter already has 4 holes which you can use.

On the iX1, the holes that are already on the bumper sit way back and do not fully align with the holes on the bumper. It might be different on the X1. And by holes, I mean the ones that you can see in the first photo below.

I also ended up not needing the lower part of the front splitter (part number: 51 11 5 A0D B79), as it seems to be specific for the M35i or ICE models: it has bits that did not fit anywhere on the iX1 (circled in the second photo) and made installation impossible.

Thank you for your reply, just what my thought we may not need the lower section of the spitters … 😝

It was strange at first! The lower section provides added rigidity and weight, making it feel more durable but it just wouldn’t fit anywhere on the bumper! In the end the upper section is all that is needed! I should’ve kept the original packaging until after installation so I can return it

Thanks for sharing this! This actually looks very good. It doesn't look like the car is pretending to be a more premium model, but rather finishes off the bumper's lines at the bottom instead of looking like an abrupt cut off

Just realized you are based in Hong Kong too when I noticed the stickers on your front plates. Where did you order the splitter from if you don't mind sharing. Thanks in advance.

Exactly my thoughts! I didn’t want anything too crazy like some of the after market pieces currently available. This one simply completes the M Sport look. BMW should’ve included this by default

I personally got it from ECS tuning , there are a couple different vendors in HK you can order from, such as BV auto. Just remember ix1 do not need the lower splitters section due to different bumper design

Has anyone tried fitting it into a ICE model?
Will it need the two pieces and the extra holes?
I must say it looks terrific with a paint contrast.
Mine is black sapphire, I guess you would notice even less..

I just checked the parts catalogue and compared the American 28i to the European iX1, and they both have the exact same bumper. The parts numbers are identical, so I assume they will be the same across the board!

BUT I did also notice that the M35i has a different bumper parts number. So I’m guessing the lower section of the front bumper is specific to the M35i trim.

The contrast of the black splitter and space silver is amazing! But it is a relatively small splitter, so I think with black sapphire, it will mostly add to the “completeness” of the bumper design rather than being a noticeable splitter

I want to thank you for your reply. Your reply was so simple... just 3 words... but somehow it stuck in my mind during the past 2 weeks.

ok... so after 2 weeks, I finally kicked myself for making such a rash decision. What the heck was I thinking? I'm going to waste thousands of dollars by getting rid of perfectly near-new car? If my grandfather was still alive, he would slap me silly and then disown me.(which I would total deserve)

This morning, my relative and I went to the dealer and had the order transferred to his name. So it's his M35i now with an expected production date of the week of October 9.

How's the ride quality on these been so far? I know youre on winter rubber, but still curious how the feedback and compliance is on this set up.
