I have avoided reading this thread because I was kind of jealous of folks who have ID9 in their X1. My X1, produced in April, had the "old and outdated" ID8.

Seeing so many bugs reported here, I'm now actually glad that I have ID8. It's 98% bug-free for far.

Luckily my id9 works fine, all works apart form the app where my trips still is enpty despite two technical support “tickets”. Can’t say it bothers me mind as all the mpg data I need is on the id9 screen in tbe car.

Same here!
The main thing I actually want is the new row of “buttons” at the center bottom of the screen. Where we have climate menu only, ID9 also has the home and apps buttons (which usefully removes the home button on the top left corner of the screen). That’s my biggest envy. Oh, and the seat heating button right next to temp settings!

I genuinely feel, all BMW X1s (U11 series) would be either upgraded to ID8.5 or ID9 in coming months..

As X1s built before March, 2023 have MGU22/MGU22H head units which are compatible with id8.5 and X1s built after March or July,23 (depending on region) have IDC23 units which are id9 compatible.

Based on the hardware support, we have a reason to rejoice

They may be compatible with 8.5, but according to press release this is reserved for mid-size and higher end vehicles with the larger curved displays, and not for the X1/iX1.

Also, no vehicle with ID8 will be updsgraded to ID9. Only vehicles built with ID9 from factory will have ID9

I mean it's not impossible, but highly unlikely. BMW representatives have previously stated in interviews that ID8 U11 vehicles are not compatible with ID9, and that the X1 would not be getting 8.5 at all. After seeing the many complaints about iD9 here, I'm perfectly happy with staying on ID8. Everything that I use daily works without issue, though I am a bit disappointed that as an early production model there are not many options in the Connected Drive store for me to add on compared to current production vehicles.

I’m hoping we get to have more add-one in the future. Although, that being said, if you fully optioned the car, there will be almost no add-ons available (maybe none?).

When I first got the car, I only had heated steering wheel option. As of Friday last week, I received a new add-on: traffic camera information. Free for a month, 30 euro for a year.

All I have is traffic camera info and remote start. I was kind of expecting heated seats and adaptive cruise control to be options since I assume all the proper hardware is there, but oh well. Don’t really need the heated seats often and after testing out the auto parking features and the occasional glitches with the lane departure warnings I don’t have much faith in the adaptive cruise control here. To be fair, our lane markings and surfaces here are pretty bad and sometimes non existent though, so the camera would have a hard time in some areas.

We don’t get remote start in Austria for the X1, and I ordered the driving assistant professional, so the adaptive cruise control etc are already included, so I can’t give any input on these add-ons.
What I can say, though, is that lane departure and adaptive cruise control work amazingly well here. Auto parking in public spaces has worked brilliantly 90% of the time. Occasionally, it reverses too far back and leaves approx. 10cm from the car behind and about 30cm from the car in front. It also sometimes reverses too fast and forces me to use the brakes.

Adaptive cruise control wasn’t available when I ordered the car; neither were the active seats that I would have ordered if I knew adjustable lumbar wasn’t going to be on the sport seats. For the auto parking, my problem is that it was too slow, and would sometimes slam on the brakes if it detected someone behind me who clearly was on the other side of the parking aisle 20+ feet away. I can easily park in or leave any stall 10x faster than what it has shown me it can do, so I never use it.

Ah yes…the insane amount of features that were constantly being added every other week….it really did my head in. And now of course, it calmed down and they haven’t added any new features for 2 months or so ever since announcement of MY24 models.

And yes! The sudden brakes, too! This happened a few times. You’re absolutely right that it’s much faster to just park it manually. It’s a nice feature to have at the beginning and to show to friends and family. But after a while, you just want to park the car yourself instead of wasting time.

Since cruise control wasn’t available to you when ordering, I think that is the reason you don’t have these options available to you via remote services. It might be that the car needs something specific that your model does not have

My trips seem to be sporadically working at the moment, I am driving outside of the UK right now, I wonder if they will still work when I return.

It’s clear they have no idea why my trips isn’t working as the two tickefs they opened haven’t been responded to by them.

But at the end of the day I hardly use the app or my phone to unlock, I find it easier to just use my key to be honest and I don’t really need to know about the car when I’m not in it. I appreciate it may bother some people though!

What matters most to me is how thr car looks, drives, how well the inside the car tech works, the exonomy and how well it’s built, all of which i’m super happy with.

They introduced I'd9 only UK, only ICE.
So UK PHevs were expected on id8 till now.
May be yours is one of the last UK Phev id8.

I am expecting my PHev (mainland Euro) to be delivered mid October. My take is it will be id8. Initially was bit disappointed. Now, I don't know what ID to wish for.

Better to have the 8 for now imo, until 9 is more stable.
A remote update to 9 will still come at some point

From 8 you can only (in the future) update to 8.5, never 9. Only cRs shipped with 9 can be 9 and onwards as it’s a different head unit
