Seat Runner

Question all

I've PM'ed E92fan on this, but thought i'd put it to the people too

Re: advice on a rattling front passenger seat.

I had the dealer tighten up the seat, but its seems its still a tiny bit loose on the runnner, so with this little movement it rattles, I have sprayed a load of greece on the runners but it only cures it for a few days and its back again! What do you reckon? can you tighten the seat to the runner? (e92 coupe electric seats)

cheers

Does the seat do it when there is a bum on it? My passenger seat only does it a bit minus a bum on the seat.

mine doesn't squeak but it has started to 'move' as if springs are letting go now before you start having a go about my weight, i have in fact lost 5 kilos this year and i only weigh 115kilos and my arse is not that large

does anyone have a link to the seat's construction (non sports) i cant see anything at all from underneath so guess it will need a repair...would this be under warranty or classed as normal wear and tear ?

while we are on the subject could I get the standard seats replaced with sports ones ?

thanks

Apologies for resurecting this old chestnut.

My drivers seat has started creaking. It's horrible, like rusty springs grinding. I've figured out that it's coming from the upright part of the seat and makes the noise as my back moves around in the seat. It can be heard on acceleration and cornering or if I just adjust myself in the seat.

I cannot spray it because there is no opening to the inner seat. I will ask BMW to fix this under warranty but I can't see how they will open up the seat? I would hate them to unpick the stitching! Perhaps it will need a new seat.

There is no movement in the seat rails though, it's the inside of the upright bit.

Anyone else had this done under warranty?

It's very annoying, not what you expect in a luxurious beemer!

I have exactly the same issue with mine - when it was in the dealers a few months ago they sort of fixed it, but it re-appeared again within a few weeks (was not perfect even after they did it but it has never returned as bad as it did to start with)

My local dealer however is shite and I get sick of taking my car back to them for fault after fault. Most of them they dont fix first time anyhow. I may mention it next time it goes in but kinda feel I am wasting my breath!

I have heard of a few seat bases being replaced but mine is like yours, with the noise worst when accelerating, and body weight transferring around the backrest.

Thanks for that red, well I am about to book the car in for a service so I will insist they look at this under warranty at the same time.

I had a creak in the "seat" of the seat last year and eradicated it with a well aimed squirt of WD40. The car smelt of WD40 for a couple of weeks but it went away and the noise never returned. But with this latest creak there is no opening to spray into!

Weird how these creaks suddenly start happening.

To be fair to my local dealer they are pretty good, but I won't let this drop because it is pretty poor for a £34,000 car to creak like a Vauxhall Viva after just 2 years!

fully agree matey!!

You also dont expect a 38k car to have had steering rack, high pressure fuel pump, clutch, usb port, roof shell trims, headlamp washer mechanism, etc replaced alongside an airbag recall, CAN bus failure, seat base creak, injector reprograms, the list goes on.....

Not bad for 6k miles and 10 months

Quality German Engineering???? Not any longer IMO

Mine was fixed first time under warranty, they told me they lubricated the seat base. Other issues I've had since, e.g centre vent rattle and some resonance thru the footwell pedals they have failed to rectify. BMW UK phoned to do a survey after the last attempt by the dealer - I told them what I thought! The dealer wears you down by making you take the car back over and over without resolution. With BMW now squeezing their component suppliers harder than ever, things will only get worse in future...

I found my creaking seat was caused by the pivot points of the front tilt mechanism (controlled by right hand front handle) By putting grease on those pivot points (mainly the Left hand side), the noise has gone.

Thanks I'll have a look at that. Mine sounds like it's a spring deep within the backrest, but I suppose it could be anywhere. Cheers.

Update.

BMW Dealer said seat creaking was common and they have lubricated the "usual places".

Seems to have done the trick .... touch wood.

My seat creak (drivers side) was cured with a new steering rack.....

It only happened when cornering, and since dealer changed the rack it certainly seems to have gone......glad it was warranty work!

I've had the seat creak on both my E92s. Cured them both myself with a can of spray grease, just moved the seat as high & forward as it would go and lubed up any springs, and also the screws/bolts underneath that hold the seats onto the rails and hey presto, no more creaks! Even though mine sounded like it was coming from the mid back, I haven't got any more creaks!

My left A pillar as also started rattling which was fixed with a slither of plastic between the pillar and the dash. I'm a freak for hearing rattles and haven't been beaten yet!

My seat creaks like old plumbing too, just dont want to put it in the hands of my mercenary stealer because it always seems to return with more audible defects than when they attempt a fix on few. Other issues are a horrible A Pillar rattle and the seatbelt making a low freq noise.

I thought it was a BMW, not a Lancia.
