Super stoked!!! I live in San Diego and my wife's parents live in Palm Desert. The drive from San Diego to Palm Desert is amazing, 79 to 371 to 74. All two lane winding roads with nice elevation changes and banked turns. Epic drive, you just need to time it right so you don't hit too much traffic.
Does anyone know more about when it opens? Other than late 2014? Cost?
Thanks,

Wow best news I've heard in a while! As someone already mentioned, the drive there from San Diego is a blast taking the back windy roads. Very fun if you don't hit traffic!

Sounds like I'll be booking my stay at the JW Marriott and hitting this up sometime in the non-summer months.

I am VERY psyched about this (I live in LA)! Clearly I'll be going in the Winter - NOT the Summer - but it's fantastic it will be close by.

For those of you who don't live in SoCal, you can fly into Palm Springs Airport (very small airport but at least it's there) and it's about a 30 mile drive right down to the 10 Freeway. It's actually right near Coachella if that helps.

I was just thinking of heading to SC for this so this is going to save me a lot of money and time. Very psyched!!

Any word on whether that's a permanent situation, or if they plan to do PCD there eventually?

This is pretty cool, just 5 hours from my home. Looks like their dedicated track area will be pretty small but I am sure that BMW will have a great product and the location is really smart given the population that lives within a few hours. Might have my daughter (15) attend the teen driving course since she is going to get my old E90.

Well if PORSCHE is opening a race track in Carson, then why not BMW. It's about time!

It is exciting news indeed. I would be more stoked if we can do PCD. So many times I have thought about doing PCD but the distance killed it for me. To transport it back would cost about $1,500-2,000. To drive it back from SC would take days plus the cost of lodging, food, and gas. A delivery center on the West Coast would be ideal.

The track is OK, flat with straights connected by hairpins. Much like a paper clip. They are building 2 more that will ultimately make a 4.7 mile course which looks fantastic. Look at the whole outer loop from the map.

IF IF they ever do PCD there it would be in 2-3 yrs at earliest. I did ask and the main limitation is the requirement for a full shop. Right now they use the dealer in Palm Springs to maintain their fleet over here. So to deliver a car you need to be able to prep it or fix it like a dealer or as they do Spartanburg. So, sorry don't count on it for a long time if ever. It is a big flat dirt pan right now
