I love the Corvette thing;
"I have a Corvette therefore I rule."

They're getting better and they're quick but they're still from the 1990s inside and the 1970s for suspension technology.

1. BMW is a lifestyle not only a car!!!!
2. Blinkers??? I have even seen many police officers not using blinkers and not making a full stop. So it's not only Bimmers
3. Some cities have a different driving culture than others
4. Bimmers are Bimmers
5. I have seen Ford escort owners trying to own the road

In other word nothing that has been said against BMW owners applies to all of us.

I think that the some people think that owning a sport car makes then "different" and empowered. WRONG!!!!

I completely disagree. I have met owners of i8s that are really nice and have seen DB as well. Also I agree that many DB and AH buy sports car to show the world (friends) that they can also be someone. Well they are all wrong. A car is just a car. We love BMWs but that doesn't make us different than a Totoya or Dodge owner. My 2 cents

I agree with most of your points except one. A car is not just a car, at least to me it is not. To me my M3 and Corvette is a passion and a hobby to love that when I drive makes me feel different, it exhilarates me and at 51 youthful again. Now I agree it doesn't make me empowered but different yes, I believe you have a sports car to "exercise" it, the problem is when and where this happens is what gets people in trouble.

I certainly feel and drive differently in my cars than when I drive my son's toyota Corolla

Reality check: Most of our BMWs are not really that special. Unless it true M or the model number starts with a 6 or above, our cars are really mid-pack in terms of price. There are many, many cars on the road that cost as much to drive. So this idea that BMW are something special and rare is simply not true for 90+ percent of the BMWs sold.

Its my experience that how others treat you on the road is more a function of how you are driving your car rather than what car you are driving. Sure, there are some that want to piss you off because you are driving a car they perceive to be special, fancy, expensive, whatever. But I'd bet that just as many or more unpleasant moments on the road have more to do with how you drive your car.

Honestly ask yourself how you feel when another car around you is driving like he/she owns the road (tailgating/flashing lights/no blinkers/weaving in and out of traffic/honking/........) Does that driver's conduct upset you? In that situation, do you think about doing something with your car that makes them unhappy just because you can, or do you pull over and let them pass? Does the brand of car they are driving really enter into your thinking at that moment?

Oh and Buicks. The. Slowest. Drivers. On. The. Road. When I am sitting a stop sign and see a Buick go by I think to myself "oh well, might as well find another way to go."

I completely agree. I always laugh when people make comments about my 328 and how expensive it must be. No one even blinks about my F350 in the driveway as you see one everywhere. The best part of owning my BMW has been the service from my dealership. It's been top notch.

First of all......nice first post. Now, this is the part that stands out to me the most. I don't really care how people perceive me behind the wheel of the vehicle I choose to drive. As long as I know I'm a courteous driver. See people will have all sorts of reasons to dislike you. Do you care what people think about the decisions you make in clothes, women, hair style.......see my point. When you get old you stop giving a damn what people think.........Phil

Agree. It's a hobby, passion or whatever you want to call it. Most non car enthusiastic people do don't understand, so they will see you as a show off guy. Nevertheless they will always be DBs and AHs.

I guess they feel entitled because they are saving the environment so they can drive as slow as they want while being gas efficient as well. My favorite thing about Prius drivers? How absolutely self righteous and STUPID they are. That piece of crap is worse for the environment than almost anything else on the market. They mine the nickel for the batteries in Canada in a horribly destructive process. After leaving there, the nickel travels to Europe, China, Japan and United States. And no, they're not dragging it around the world with zero emissions vehicles.

My 2 cents:

(1.) Cars can be a hobby but not brands

(2.)
Brands can be a lifestyle, but connecting your identity to a brand is indicative of 1 or more personality disorders. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

(3.) I give the nod to anyone with a cool ride, regardless of brand (or vehicle type), and if anyone gives me the nod I always smile and nod back

(4.) I drive like a complete dick and will continue to do so since it's my hobby.

The people I see driving BMWs where I live all seem to exhibit normal, courteous driving habits. The worst offenders around here are by far (and I do mean it's not even close), guys in jacked up full size trucks. The are the biggest ass-hats on the roads here, and it literally does seem like it's ALL of them. I'm pretty convinced it's people's way of advertising that they have a raging case of microphallus.

20 years ago it was like that. BMW was still a niche, enthusiast brand. Now, not so much. I'm sure the guys that are old enough to remember when the 2002 was new would tell you even more 'wave' stories.

If you want people to wave back, buy an older BMW and mod it. You'll get thumbs up and waves from enthusiasts and non-enthusiast BMW owners.

In my experience, when group A affixes a label like "those guys are all assholes" to group B, it tends to be because group B is superior in some way and group A just needs some reason to knock-them down a little. I'm convinced that in this case it's because BMW drivers tend to be enthusiasts and so we are a little more competent and capable on the roads. For people who are no more than commuters, where the road is just that thing they have to sit on for awhile before they get to their friends house, people who drive with a purpose look like assholes.

Maybe, but we won't clog the roadways like ya'll do with your cruising in the passing lane and coming to a full stop before making anything resembling a turn.

Seriously, starting at age 65 all drivers should have to take the full "I just turned 16 and I'm getting my license for the first time" test every year, not just sitting at a computer every 4 years and correctly identifying a stop sign.
