that's why amex is amex. no one really accepts them any more and most banks don't even carry them.

I know for sure, 10,000 Marriott points can redeem for up to a $150 night stay.

It takes $1 spend to earn 1 Marriott point, so this translates to $10,000 spend to get $150 of value back or 1.5% value/cash back , (3% value back per $1 spend for restaurant spending and 7.5% on Marriott spending).

What's the Hyatt numbers look like in that respect?

Also you can't jus t look at Courtyard Marriott Munich.... Even though it's a "Courtyard", it may be a Cat 7 hotel, so it'll take more points as the cash price of the hotel that takes 45k points could be $300 a night.
Points earned are similar to Marriott I think. You'll have to look it up on thepointguy.com. The Hyatt card is the number one hotel card IIRC. Marriott card I have read over and over that they have amongst the worst point value.

It's because they don't want to lose business to Visa and MasterCard. That's like Mercedes telling a potential buyer to use paddle shifters instead of a true manual because they don't have a manual transmission option.

Citi Prestige

All have signup bonuses, transferable points, no foreign transaction fees, and bonus categories.

Chase card also lets you pool points from Chase Freedom and Chase Freedom Unlimited, includes trip cancellation insurance, primary rental car insurance, and first year fee waived.

SPG Amex has the widest range of airline transfer partners, credit towards Starwood elite status, access to Sheraton lounges, and first year fee waived.

Citi Prestige offers 4th night free hotel stay, trip cancellation insurance, primary rental car insurance, $250 annual airline credit, Priority Club membership, and until next July Admirals Lounge Access.

Even with the fees from these cards, you usually make out ahead as long as you would normally benefit from the perks.

The travel perks of the Chase Sapphire Preferred card really are nice to have. I ended up needing to make a claim using the primary rental car insurance a couple of years back, and while the claim process did require a shit ton of documentation, it was taken care of.

By far the best gas card: PenFed Cash Rewards Plus - 5% back on all gas purchases, unlimited cash back

I use Citi Double Cash for most regular purchases because it gets 2% cash back on all purchases.

AMEX Plat also offers similar coverage for insurance. They basically covers the full cost of the car/fix up to the depreciable value.

We got a flat tire and did not have tire coverage when we were in Italy. Even though we declined that coverage, Amex covered the night in the hotel plus the cost of the tire - all I did was scan them the receipt from both. Really outstanding service. One year they even refunded me the unused $200 airline credit when I tried to demote to Gold from Plat.

This is one of the most valuable benefits for anyone who travels. I cannot tell you how many times they have come through in travel emergencies. I will always keep an AMEX card.

Why so many credit cards? I have a personal Amex Starwood (Sheraton, Westin, Etc), Costco Visa (because Amex isn't accepted so many places) and a work credit card. Can't see the reason why so many have far more credit cards or why I would ever get another one.
