Holy crap.
Can’t even do it like this in GT no matter how many times I crash and reset. In real life, after having driven it on 3 different occasions with my own cars, it’s not even in the same universe. The Ring is brutal, very bumpy, lots of elevation and compression all along, the risk when pushing from an amateur’s perspective is not worth it. And in real life the car is doing things on the bumps that are not reflected in the video game... insane. I want to go back...

However, the 8:19 time in this video also includes the Grand Prix circuit (which itself has several configurations) + the Nordschleife. So the configuration the E46 M3 GTR used is 2.20 miles (3.55 km) longer than the configuration manufacturers use when they publish 'Ring times. In the video, he enters the Nordschleife at 3:17. This is just barely past the start/finish line for the Nordschleife. He exits the Nordschleife and re-enters the Grand Prix circuit at 10:07 in the video. There's a right turn at 10:07 blocked by an Armco barrier; that's where you'd turn to stay on the Nordschleife and cross the start/finish line a second or two later. So a good estimate of his time on the course the manufacturers use when they publish their 'Ring times is 10:07 - 3:17 + 3 seconds = 6:53. Here is how the two different layouts compare. These maps are from iRacing: Industriefahrten: 12.94 miles (20.82 km) Gesamtstrecke VLN: 15.14 miles (24.37 km) Last edited by ///BYU; 05-15-2019 at 08:14 PM.. |

I had the privilege of meeting Hans Stuck at (I believe) the Turkish Grand Prix in 2006. He was in the BMW Paddock area, and spoke to everyone there.
Prior to the GP I had watched his attempt to achieve 200 mph in an M6 on the Autobahn, where he didn't quite make it due to a slow car in the left lane that didn't get over. He laughed about that and shrugged his shoulders as if to say "whatcha gonna do?". A complete gentleman, and a nice guy who was willing to talk cars as long as you cared to.

It was an honor and a privilege to have just watched Hans work the Green Hell.
...So that's what ten tenths looks like.

I've been visiting the Nürburging/Nordschleife annually since September 2008.
It is as awesome as everyone tells you. In 2012 I made a special trip as there was a VLN race, which takes place on the GP+Nordschleife connected and they kept that layout for the following Tourist Driving session. I've never seen it so busy in my life there, but was easily the coolest thing I've ever done. If you have the chance, go there. Although nowadays, the track is crowded with Playstation racers.
