I hear ya! I didn't mean "don't hate the player" in a literal sense. Meant it as in, "don't hate the player hate the game," as they say.

Enjoyed this video a lot. This is one vehicle where I want all the details. The manual was really cool to read. Who even knew what it looked like until his video?

Doug looks like a younger Jay with a receding hairline. Same chin. Same voice. Same love for quirky cars.

Hoovie is Doug’s clean up man. He’s part of that whole “but a cheap ____, and chronicle what needs to be fixed” genre. He’s not a wrencher like Tavaris. And that whole episode with the e60 M5, came after Doug’s e60 M5 review (correct me if I am wrong)

Why don't he just build himself a racetrack and drive these rare cars in that without having to worry about the local roads,
Because Jay has said that he’s not one of these racetrack guys. He likes taking his cars out for a drive. It’s the connection he feels with them in normal everyday situations. Like he enjoyed (and was silent) during his drive of the Ferrari replica.

I'm not Leno fan but I appreciate that he actually drives his cars and lets people sit in them rather than hide them away treating them like an asset.

Totally disagree. Doug has become popular because he's tapped into a niche that nobody else has. We are in an era where most internet car reviews consist of magazine editors taking the car around a track or take the car on the road and complaining about the electronic steering and lack of a 3rd pedal which is nothing you haven't already read about the car in C&D or MotorTrend. They mostly appease the bench racers or the few drivers that actually take their cars to the track. I like Chris Harris but you learn very little about what what it's like to live with the car on a daily basis from his reviews.

Doug resonates the the majority of people that actually buy the cars to use on their daily commute. He brings forth the quirks and features that an owner has to live with on a daily basis that can't be measured by 0-60 or 1/4 mile times. You can learn more about the infotainment systems in most new cars from Doug than you will ever learn from your dealer. That said I don't use his reviews as a guideline for what I look for in a car as I'm a car guy and do a lot of my own research but I do appreciate learning the quirks and hidden features of new and classic vehicles that I never got to own and nobody does this better than Doug. I use his pic as my avatar because I think he's goofy looking and even that plays into why he's entertaining as he knows he's a goof and doesn't take himself that seriously unlike some of these amateur internet car reviewers that are trying to be Chris Harris or Jeremy Clarkson.

I just think hes cheap

You don't need to be a 'racetrack' guy to have your own speedway and drive however you wish

Yeah, let's make even more money for this guy. Seriously, I don't understand the fascination. His reviews are merely adequate and his voice/mannerisms/etc fall squarely onto the annoying side of the equation. Then again, I find most successful YouTubers to be absolutely obnoxious with their ridiculous over-enthusiasm and method of speech. Sadly this has become the norm and anyone who acts "normal" doesn't generate the big view count.

Just more dumbing down of the world I guess. . . Sad.
I'm ok with Doug. He gives a slightly different perspective and he doesn't annoy me as often as many others do. The worst of them all is that Schmee character...she's unbearable!!

Was that the Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX review? I remember watching that and thinking Doug can't be that young that he doesn't know what an equalizer is.

Honestly, I have no idea how Doug got so big. He doesn't seem to be very knowledgeable about cars and his "Doug score" is a joke. Not only his scorings are inconsistent, him giving such low scores is absurd. So apparently, no car will receive a 90+ score.

Thats fine by me as long as there is a consistent standard across the board, that just only means if you see a really high score it must be a really special car and really earned it

The old adage of "Why pay for the cow when the milks free?"

Think about the upkeep of a racetrack, staffing it, insurance...etc. He gets invited to drive all types of new/old cars for free all the time.

https://www.cnbc.com/video/2017/08/2...ive-video.html

Do you think he paid for ANYTHING in this video? See 1:50 mark of video.

Your post applies to working class ppl, not ppl w jay leno money who get to retire easily after a few years

If you can afford hundreds of acres, just throw some asphalt on a piece of that, doesnt have to be full fledged racetrack, though if you see his garage and the team of ppl working for him, its not a bridge too far to pave some road while your at it

I'd say he's decent at what he does. I haven't found anyone else who reviews the wide range of cars he does (Exotic/Supercar to your everyday premium/luxury cars/SUVs that middle to upper class could have.

His videos are quite long though and some things he says/does isn't necessarily relevant. However, that's where 1.5x speed comes in handy on YouTube.

Strangely enough, the unnecessary detail is his differentiator and the ONLY potential value-add to his reviews over others on YouTube. Otherwise, he can be a bit annoying and it's hard to stop staring at his tongue when he speaks. LOL but kudos to him either way for making a living off his passion and doing what he enjoys. Don't hate the player!
Not hating at all. I love the guy. He's so popular anyone with an interesting car would love to have their featured in one of his videos. What I'm saying is I love his feedback from behind the wheel that I really don't give a damn about every little light bulb and switch and stitching in the carpet. Tell what it feels like to drive. you see.. that's what I enjoy most from Doug..learning about the little stuff that make the cars and automakers so unique. there's tons of other reviewers that can describe how a car drives, but I love how geeky he gets with his discoveries. you sound like someone who should just skip Doug's videos and go straight to Chris Harris videos.

Doug who?

Don’t like the guy, nor his so called “reviews”. He doesn’t review a vehicle, he just recite the owner manual and points the items.
A reviews consists in many other aspects.
Amateurism as its best.

A pretty woman would distract from the subject. The plain look of this guy is allright for the purpose.

His reviews would be that worthless for buyers but for those who are just curious they should be fine. I'll never own any of those cars even if a miracle strikes (at longest last! ) and I can afford: no used car for me. So why would I bother even looking for a manual, not to mention reading it? To my liking his reviews could be just shorter sometimes, but they expose pretty much all I would wonder about those cars and the details he pinpoints are mostly interesting, involving.

Not all of us care about how a car corners at a race track and I know I wouldn't watch a Doug video if I did.
