I'm glad you mentioned sound, at about 130 in my S2000 there was nothing at all but the sound of the wind, and in the STi , even with the crazy loud exhaust I had on it there was no sound at all except wind at 170 mph. These were curious things back then for sure.

I was able to hit 169.68mph at Talladega when I did the Dale Jarrett racing adventure. As far as street cars go, 155mph but that was what the speedo showed and no way to know how accurate. That was in a 2003 Infiniti G35. I reached 150mph in my X5M which was pretty neat based on its size and weight.

Not my greatest moment in life, but hey; crack whores can be pretty damn amusing. I'm sure that at some point that I have been at a higher rate of speed, but recently got the IS to 140 and still had quite a bit of pedal left. I'll plead the fifth as to where this took place. No mods. Considering slapping an ///M badge on my Lexus to squeeze a few more horses out of it. |

Top speed was about 153 mph in an Audi 1.9T diesel over in Germany, on the autobahn.
It topped out at about 138 mph on the flat bits, but I saw a hill coming and had it pinned and at the bottom I had managed the 153 mph. Because I was young, dumb and invincible, I took one hand off the wheel and grabbed the camera and started taking pictures of the speedo just random hoping one would turn out. This was the best picture of the lot so it is the one I saved. Last edited by Joekerr; 01-17-2020 at 09:54 AM.. |

136 on my Ducati Cafe. Speedo isn't the most accurate tho, and it definitely has more left as that was redlining 6th.
Ive been 1mph faster than the Duc in the M2, deceivingly stable at high speeds. For sure has more in it, but I gotta stop acting a fool. |

Fastest:
120 mph in an E90. Scariest/dumbest: Finding where the governor kicked in on a Jeep XJ 4.0L. It kicks in at 112 mph, which feels like going 250 mph in a school bus.

Highest indicated speed is 157 in the X5M, and it had more in it, but traffic was approaching in Mexico, and the bike next to me was fading so I let off.
Velos tune and K&N filters are the only mods. Same day was running consistent 13.2 1/4 miles, and weighed in at 5600 lbs. approx 5400 Ft elevation as well. There have been a few well sorted little 4 cyl cars that have seen well past the end of their speedos in past days, but calculations on gearing probably have them topping out at about 150. |

Gotta tell you guys about my top speed run on the Audobahn in the late 90s. I was working for a company that was owned by Daimler (Then Diamler-Chrysler) and was in Germany with a co-worker for an engineering workshop with our Daimler colleagues. Daimler in Stuttgart has a massive fleet of "pool" cars that visiting employees borrow as opposed to getting a conventional rental car. There's this whole system of reserving them ahead of time that I knew nothing about and my travel companion said not to worry as he was experienced and would just take care of it. I was 25, had never been to Europe, let along driven on the Audobahn. I was PUMPED! He rented us each a car as we had slightly different schedules later in the week and needed to split up. We get to this parking lot the size of a Costco lot, packed with every conceivable Daimler product. Out they come with John's car, a black V12 S Class. Oh this is going to be goooooood!!!!! Then they look at my paperwork, motion over in my direction, talk to my co-worker who had made the reservation, then all start laughing. Uh oh. Out comes a F'Ing Diesel Vaneo cargo van. Think Sprinter van only smaller, uglier, slower, and less cool. Bastard! We hit the highway and when the autobahn opens up to no speed limit, John slides over to the left lane, gives a wave, and is gone. I mash the pedal down and lumber my way up to a top speed of about 80 Mph. Pathetic.
