You remember the old limerick for California during droughts:

This is his backyard, not the great outdoors.

Take it home, freeze it, and throw it through that nosy neighbor's window.

Or don't.

Either way.

Fling it on their roof. It'll stink every time it rains.

Good on you for picking up after your dog.

Bad on you for disposing it in someone else's trash can.

My thought has always been you're enhancing the security of their trash. No one wants to go through the trash and steal the identity of someone who has poop in the trash. My wife used to be paranoid about people going through our trash, and I pointed out that we had twins in diapers, and nobody was going through our trash.

Man this thread makes me even more happy that I live in the sticks and not in town.

I am on he fence with this, on one side its my grass, my yard, my trash can, leave it the hell alone. You wouldn't mess with someone elses vehicle, why is this any different? Not yours, don't touch it. But on the flip side, putting something in my trash really isn't a big deal as long as your not filling it up to the point I can't put trash in it. But still, stay off my grass.

I have my dog trained to poop in the woods and not in the yard. Sometimes she poops at the edge of the yard when it's crazy cold or deep snow and she cant be bothered to take the extra 5 steps, or when she is mad at me she makes eye contact as she poops to rub it in... little brat.

She does pee in the yard though, and in her usual area the grass is destroyed and dead. I've tried and tried to get her to pee in the woods but no luck.

This is also an issue on hiking trails, you're supposed to pick up after your animal and carry out the poobags, but so many people just leave landmines in the middle of the trail for the next person to come along and step in, or they just leave bags of shit along the trail for someone else to pick up. That shit really pisses me off (pun intended).

Let's be clear here, we're not talking about typical garbage, we're talking about stinky dog shit. Yes, it's in a poop bag but after time, they still stink, especially when it's hot outside.

Picking up after your own dog should be a given, but unfortunately there are plenty of irresponsible owners that let their dogs shit anywhere they please and then don't pick up after them. These type of owners needs to be smacked upside the head to be sure. Better yet, grab them by the neck and force them to smell the mess they left. End of rant.
The feces are not picked up yet though - I throw it on top of the trash bags before the trash is picked up in a sealed bag. So it's not like it's sitting out in the sun for a week

Everyone keeps their trash cans outside of their houses in my neighborhood so it's not like there is dog crap sitting in peoples' garages for the entire week.

She does think it's rude but she doesn't walk the dog so IMO her opinion is somewhat invalidated.

Anyways, it's been interesting reading the replies. I'm not trying to be a bad neighbor so I won't do it again

I never imagined when I joined the BMW forum I would see a thread on dog poop. Having said that I have a dog and there is no way I would ever drop my dogs poop in someone elses garbage can. It is flat out rude and uncalled for. Treat people like you want to be treated. On a side note I was out with my dog last week and got distracted by someone and while i wasnt watching my dog pooped on my neighbors yard. while I was picking it up he opened the window and let me know he wasn't happy and this guy owns a dog. So be respectful of your neighbors and you will be better for it.

My neighbor filled my recycle bin a few weeks ago and left boxes sticking way out with the lid unable to close. This is not allowed and technically the pickup could have left it without emptying it. I snapped some pics (their address labels were clear on the boxes) and nearly took the boxes out to leave on their doorstep. Calmed down and decided to go over and tell them not to do that, but calmed down some more and decided to wait for a second offense before I go talk to them (and there hasn’t been one).

Why was I mad? Cause who the fuck are you to use my things without asking? Had they asked, I would have happily said yes and broken down the boxes for them.

This is with cardboard. Not dog shit.

I checked after this thread, and all our cans are molded with the lid that says it is the property of the rubbish company. So once on the street, if I need a little space, I'm using any can that isn't full.

Like, my side gets picked up, but I have this last set of branches, or one last run of trash and recycle, I'm crossing the street and filling things up. It doesn't cost you any more, and I think there is legal precedence that once you put a can on the street, its contents are open for "snooping" and in this case, pooping.

So this settles it - it is APPROPRIATE to deposit dog feces in trash cans since they are not your property and before the trash is picked up as long as they are sealed.

No, it settles it in you mind. That can, while it may be the property of the garbage company, is still stored on the property, likely in a garage. Stinking dog shit still an issue... And if you don't thing dog bags in a garbage can are a big deal, then take them back to your can, it's not a problem right?

This thread is like a freakin train wreck. I don't have a dog, I have nothing to add but I just can't keep from looking.

just because it isnt illegal doesnt mean its appropriate. You are not entitled to the use of their trash can.

Go to the extreme, if someone came and put a bag of human shit in your trash can, would you be cool with it? If the answer is yes, youre lying.
