+1 We don't call them "Donorcycles" for nothing. Around where I work, the OR nurses will not let their kids rid a motorcycle.

If you do get a bike, be careful. My parents said if Im going to buy a bike, I have to move out first. So it looks like I wont get one until my mid 20s |

That's the least that you can do, but with morons driving big rigs on the road, it's a little sketchy......

To the OP, get a 250cc bike. That is what everyone told me when I was first starting out and I am glad I did. You can get in trouble on a 250cc when your a new rider, starting out on a 600cc when you've never rode is just asking for trouble.
Besides 250's have improved a lot lately. No longer do they look like scooters. This was my 2008 Kawasaki Ninja 250r that I just sold recently. Not getting another bike, instead using that money on a nicer car. |

Maybe a 250 is a good idea for begining riders. Ive owned several bikes from 1000cc to 600cc and right now im rockin a Yamaha wr250x and it has been more fun than any other bike i have owned. i love this little thing!

Op: Remember how I told you I'm getting a new bike to get back on after my accident? I'm getting a 2008 or 2009 ninja 250r. Looks aren't a problem on that bike anymore and brand new its 3500-4000 here in the U.S. Listen I lived in Toronto, how are you going to afford the insurance? I remember when I got mine when I was 19, they wanted $10,000 a year. Ontario has one of the worst Insurance rates. If you have relatives that live in Quebec, I suggest you register the bike there and get insurance from there.

Your peer group (the people you are going to ride with) will have a significant influence on how you ride. If they can behave, so can you. If they are idiots, you will be too.
To be completely honest, the size of the bike is not particularly important, as they will all go fast enough to kill you, right here, right now. A large majority of rider error accidents occur when you get into a turn too hot and run wide. This rarely happens at 180mph. The slide won't kill you, but a sudden stop can be a b!tch. Here is my advice: 1. Get some professional training at a riding school. 2. Lay down some rules about who you will ride with, and where you will ride. 3. Spend all of your money on safety gear, the best you can get your hands on. Wear it. All the Gear- All the Time. 4. Buy a bike that fits your standards with what you have left over after buying all of that safety gear. 5. Enjoy yourself, but never forget that you are taking a risk that can end your life, or worse. 6. Slow in, fast out. Be safe, and when in doubt, brake. |
