We handle mosquitos with a misting system. Not cheap but worth it.

FWIW, that's not always true. Just saying.

That extended the season roughly two months (one at each end). I looked at putting in a solar heater but didn’t want to drain/purge before winter every year, worry about freeze damage, etc. Of course I had to do all of that with the nat gas heater anyway.

We now live in a setting similar to Murf’s and are looking at a swim spa for my wife (therapy/exercise). They aren’t cheap, but they are easy to install and maintain, I think. Probably Spring 2023.
We keep the "pool" at 85F and the hot tub on the deck at 103F.

There's no comparing the ongoing costs of a boat vs a pool, boats are astonishing in their ability to eat money.

no-see-ums though, my goodness they're a pain. This is why we did the screen in the lanai, with the retractable side for easy in and out. The screen is the no-see-um one and helps with UV protection as well incredibly enough.

Misting system takes care of those too. Don’t get me wrong - I like the screens too. We actually had one until a storm destroyed it. We decided we liked the views better without the screen, didn’t like cleaning the enclosure and didn’t want to lose another one in the next storm, so that’s why we looked into a control solution as an alternative. It’s not 100% but works very well.

The other nice thing about the screen, though, is it kept the golf course pine needle mulch out. We get lots of that crap and leaves on our patio now that we didn’t get when we had a screen.

Ours came with the house. We did have it completely redone a few years ago. I would have preferred to have it filled in, but the kids and wife like it.

Garage List
We added a container pool by ModPools to our new house. More of a "plunge pool" than an actual swimming pool due to size at 8'x16'. Has an acrylic divider that slides into the middle allowing you to heat the side with the steps and jets to 104° in the winter for hot tub use.

We chose most of the available add-ons: auto chem releaser, UV sanitizer, power cover. The total price was $36k delivered to the house, but it cost around another $20k for excavation, crane and operator, backfill, electrical and gas hookup, and pouring the concrete patio. The base price of the pool has increased $10k since we placed our order in early 2020 due to the shortage of shipping containers post-covid.
