I don’t have my car yet so can’t check this for sure in the handbook but is there not a “wiper change position” setting where you move the wiper lever to a certain position and the wipers park in such a way that they can be hinged out clear of the hood for maintenance? My current Audi has that function.

Turn vehicle to standby then press down and hold wiper stalk, it will do about 4 sweeps then stop, you can then lift them away from windscreen.

Many cars and BMWs have been like that for years, my wife's current X1 is 5+years old and it is exactly the same. It's to significantly reduce wind noise and improve on the aerodynamics tucking them out of the way.

However you can get them to go up, I can't remember exactly but you have to turn the wipers on and then switch the car on and they lift up out of position so you can clean / change blades etc. They have thought about it so it's possible I do it on hers from time to time to give them a good clean.

Tunners you should be giving “Genius bar” seminars on the new X1 😉🤓

  • Hard buttons for climate control
  • Put the IDrive controller back
  • A real center console, what is under the cover is useless. And you can’t leave anything of value in the open space
  • Put the heated steering wheel control on the steering wheel
  • Hard button to disable auto start/stop
  • Hide rear wiper under the spoiler
  • Leather seating options, while the sensatec is comfortable it is difficult to move around on. Also add adjustable thigh support.

My wife and I are very satisfied with the drivability of the new x1. It has adequate power and decent handling. The mileage exceeds expectations on a recent trip of 145 miles we got 41.2 mpg (we use 93 octane Shell fuel) which is astounding for an IC vehicle.
Sport seats have adjustable thigh support. This is how BMWs have been for years - you need the sport seats for the extended seat cushion.

This is the kind of stuff that I didn't consider enough during our quick test drive. I still like the SUV a lot but all these little annoyances have taken a bit of the shine off of it.
This is not new. My prior BMW (2014) has this, and so does my Hyundai. As others have posted, there's a procedure for putting the wipers in service mode. Here's an old video with the older style wiper stalk.

I'm all for new technology and stuff, but asking the owner to follow a procedure just to change the wipers seems a bit much. Reminds me of the new super high-tech coffee vending machine that my office got a couple of years ago. It was capable of making two dozen different kinds of coffee in over 100 variations of sugar, cream, soy milk, temperature, etc. Yet the first time I tried it(after inserting five dollars, yes FIVE dollars), the first thing on the screen told me to reach on the right side, take a cup, insert it into the machine, close the clear plastic door, press two buttons to confirm, then wait 2 minutes. I would have thought that being a fancy high-tech machine, it would have automatic cup dispensing inside the giant vending machine.(although it did taste wonderful, much better than anything Starbucks had) The machine was removed after a few month because we switched to at-home working due to the pandemic.

It's not about "technology". Wipers sitting below the hood line cause less drag which results in better fuel economy.

Indeed and that low drag is why the X1 is so efficient, lowest in class at circa 0.26 drag co efficient 👌🏼

What an odd comment, drag starts as soon as the car moves and starts to accelerate in a slightly exponential way the faster you go. Thus a car doing 30 need less power than it does doing 60mph or 70mph because of this drag, weight is less of a factor at that point and thus why mpg drops the faster you go.

A vehicle with a low drag co efficient can thus save pennies and needs less power to get to where it needs to go, win win.

There's another thread here where people were discussing all weather mats with pix; I'm pretty sure these are U11 specific. But others from the F48 more or less fit.

I bought a full set, along with the boot (trunk) liner as I need my car for work. They are really high quality rubber, look decent and fit perfectly. The boot liner is a good design in that it has a raised lip all around, thus trapping any spills within it

For the wipers - it is the same with most BMWs including me x3m40. There is a way to do it. Press the start button with your foot OFF the brake. Push and hold the wiper stalk down and hold it there after 3 or 4 cycles the wipers will stop midway. Open the door and get out of the vehicle. To return them to parked, start the vehicle and press the wiper stalk down and release.

This is also useful when changing the wiper blades.

My mistake I have always had x3m40i vehicles til now, this is for my wife. And I would not spend the extra for M Sport. If it is an M I want the power. 😁

Thank you to everyone who replied about the wipers. I was really hoping there was a way to do it and now I learned how to do it.

Thx everyone.

Is there a trick to flipping up the rear wiper? I’m too lazy to dig through the manual.

Anyone planning to add M logo badge to side fender on their US spec M Sport package X1? It looks like European models come with badge but ours do not.
