https://u11.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...99&postcount=8 if it's only to disable engine auto stop/start, I'm sure someone can redesign the automatic keyboard presser... perhaps have it attached to the touchscreen and automatically do a swipe down and press to deactivate auto stop/start each time the engine turns on. Surely such a device cannot void BMW warranty. |

That's a blunt instrument, many want a chilled refined experience from their car. Putting mine in Sport is like grabbing a scalded cat it's not a relaxing experience at all. I think others have similar views thus that it can be a blunt instrument.

And many feel the opposite...like grabbing a scalded cat...really? Or slightly over-dramatized?

[QUOTE=MontyB1;30616722]I'm talking about my M40 not the X1; and yeah its a far more jerky experience and I can't be doing with the engine holding the revs constantly ready to take off all the time if I'm driving around chilled out.
When in the mood great, when not it's just irritating. I've had this feature on every bmw I've owned since 2016...prior to 2016 none of mine had that feature....but still, press a button and all done...but that's just me obviously

as a cat lover, I'm courius as to why you frequently use "scalded cat" to describe issues? Cats are the masters of our planet and should be accorded all the respect and worshipping as demanded. by the way, my current 16-year-old moggie was found under the bonnet of my Mercedes when I was on a road trip. He had apparently climbed in there to seek warmth inthe hotel parking lot. The hotel clerk knocked on my door in the morning and asked me to open the car door and bonnet because one of their employees heard meowing. The cat was injured and I took him to the vet.(US$1200) I then adopted him. 16 years later, well, he is still the boss. |

What is notable about the shortcut is that it preserves the ability to disable auto start/stop even when the IDrive GUI otherwise hides the option (when the car is in efficient mode). |

I don’t need to never had an issue with ASS in any car we have owned. Perfectly happy to have it on and the saving and any compromise it generates.
Just walked past my daughters school and there is a sign ‘engines off no idling’, seems a good message to me. |

if you mean OBD11 as in OBDeleven.com, they told me that it would not be possible for the U11 X1 in the forseeable future. that's the same answer as the other usual coding specialists, including Bimmercode. (although last time I contact those companies was a couple of months ago, perhaps I need to ask them as again? )

iD8 and iD9 validate any coding changes against BMW's server, so unless it's something that BMW has okayed the capability to change it on the server side, you're out of luck. The newest BMW's are way more connected now, and even some BMW's that have been coded before are now being locked out once the dealer updates the software (from what I've read on other forums).

In sport mode, my '23 X1 is holding higher RPMs than in personal mode for most of my driving, and upshifts more slowly. I would presume that's a factor in why I am experiencing lower fuel efficiency. |

I might be wrong, but I've owned 12+ bmw's over the years and have always driven with sports mode option...never noticed an increase in fuel consumption...

I don't remember seeing a marked difference in my '09 328xi, but it's been a while since I had that car. With the X1, I liken sport mode to somebody who is running a manual transmission to keep the RPMs higher so you have a little more pep on tap (and with a turbo keeps you solidly in the boost range). I totally see where sport mode is lots of fun, and is great for merging onto freeways, but I like being able to not use it when I'm toddling my 4 miles to my office on a normally stop-and-go route. |

Rolling start after a red light on flat road, 0-45 MPH in Personal Mode and my tach doesn't go much over about 2,200 while in Sport Mode the tach was hitting 3,000 or a hair over before the shifts. I tried both at sequential stop lights. When I'm cruising along at 35 MPH, the tach reads much higher in Sport mode than Personal, and if you're in personal mode at a steady speed and tach reading, switch it to sport mode and the engine RPMs will jump. I attribute the higher average RPMs as to the primary reduction in my MPGs when in Sport vs Personal modes. |

An engine when running at higher revs uses more fuel it’s as simple as that. A car in sport mode will always then use more that one in personal and more that one in eco.
Higher speeds, more drag also more fuel usage. So it you drive quick and hard in sport you will always use more fuel, an engine ingests more fuel and ignites it on each stroke unless it’s coasting and again coasting won’t engage as much in sport thus, yes again more fuel usage as the engine is still on as in a U11 it switches off in coast. The only reason no change is seen is as you have said you are using sport all the time so worse consumption all the time that you would find in normal / personal or eco. |
