Reading is fundamental. That’s literally not what you said.
You said their capability was STOLEN from the rest of the world. Sorry, organically building a core competency over time is not “stealing”. You might want to re-check the definition of the word. I’ll acknowledge they have engaged in espionage which would certainly equate to stealing, but that’s not what we’re talking about here. |

We agree on real buttons, although the iX does have them on the center console for audio at least but also a couple other functions. We have full leather on both vehicles. IX has natural wood on the center console. Screens are taking over all cars, but I will agree the Mercedes and Porsche application are better. I don’t have any delaminating or plastic issues….yet. I will say relative to Tesla the BMWs are much, much better. That’s not saying a lot though. Compared to American and Korean and Japanese cars the BMWs are a step up imo.

We agree on this. Buttons are the best and it’s a shame that luxury = screens. Mercedes and BMW should have found a happy medium. Porsche was button overload and have maintained haptic “buttons” in the center stack. I will probably go Porsche SUV next time around or Mercedes if Merc can do something manageable. That track pad is a disaster.

I believe it. First time my dealer got an iX I told everyone this is the best H/K system I’ve heard in a BMW. Remains true to this day.

It’s cute to say they “stole all the R&D”, but I doubt you have facts to back it up. Furthermore, the insuation that the Chinese have to “steal” their way to advancement and are incapable of advancing based on their own merits/capability is yet another racist ideology pushed on this site. |

First off, theres a subjective aspect to “quality”. You may not like luxury high tech interiors, and that’s fine, but plenty of people are blown away by what we are seeing in new BMWs like the 5 and 7 series. No accounting for taste I guess. Second, it’s much easier to tear down when you present recycled materials as “trash”, high tech screens as “delaminating, cheap”, etc. It’s classic strawman. You have every right to the opinion, but it’s just that. Nobody really values an opinion that is so stilted, however. |

On safety critical devices we still have old style switches for a reason due to failure cycle and ergonomics. The screens are distraction magnets and capacitive touch ain’t for use while drive as primary input mechanism. We shall see how it all shakes out. Screens are indeed cheap on many levels of auto manufacturing and design. Big screens are the new big front grilles folks

Big screens is a thing i both like and dislike for many reasons, i do not like having everything there for example certain stuff could be buttons that would be better but i do not like the cars of old when the whole inside was buttons that looked tacky af. So a mix of the two should be the best option where certain stuff don't need to be on buttons like i am not sure why we still have rear wiper on stalks instead of touch screen that is such a rear usage that it could be there with smart select ofcourse or buttons like opening the fuel cap and such do those need to be on buttons or can we have it on screens. I wonder if any of the large manufactures have data on how much certain buttons/knobs/stalks are used then make up a decision based on that maybe.
For example do you change songs/radio station more often then changing temperature in the car? Probably then that maybe should be on the steering wheel. Could we have certain features of the cruise control on the screen and replace that with climate buttons on the steering wheel maybe? But the steering wheel should not be touch i think that is problematic due to the nature of touch in it self that i can react weirdly to the sense of body parts being close to it, for example sometimes my current phone lock it self up in a weird way due some touch mechanics. So i mean i like screen but they don't need to be for everything i would like to see a design language with the screens maybe being lower down so you can see more above the dash and over the hood while adding maybe more "HUD" features you could possibly have climate controls being able to be changed in the hud display or so.

Like this? BMW invented the ergonomic standard and allowed Tesla to change their entire philosophy.

If the X5 is going to "high luxury", I wonder what that means for the X7. Curious what the next gen X7 will offer to differentiate itself besides just an extra row of seats.

From post #1 - “G65 X5 will push hard into high luxury”
Didn’t BMW say something similar abut the G45 ? Look how cheap and not luxury that turned out. |

This is what I am contemplating doing despite my aversion to the 145k price tag.
