I'd say Alonso, Raikkonen, Hamilton, Vettel....they each have special character like Senna, Schumi (i'm not saying they're alike...i'm just saying they all have each special characteristic)...and Button is more like Mansell to me....Great Driver and a nice bloke...

Maybe Alonso. Time will tell... He got majorly sidetracked with the whole McLaren BS.

Renault is a good stepping stone for him since last year.....not to mention the two time World Champ before....he's proven his value and shown how he can improve his team with his ability.....

Everyone may agree that they are two OF the best of all time. My father insists Prost was a better driver than Senna & his father says Jim Clark would have driven circles around all of them. I think Fangio and Stewart would get some votes too.

As for your question I would say Alonso, Hamilton, and Vettel have the potential & Hamilton has said he fears the talent of Kubica most of all so...

Don't get me started about "Le professeur Prost" The guy who stalled his car something like 7 times in one season when they took away launch control... He had good cars and was good at setup... As far as pace, not even on the same league, not even close to being in the same league as Senna, Shumi and you are right Fangio from a different era

Well for me if I give my car to the f1 drivers i think the positions will be like this

1 Alonso
2 Vettel
3 Kubica
4 Hamilton
5 Buemi

Im a big ferraris fan but actual drivers really dont hv a top notch skill they re not the best finding a good setup , not the best in RAIN , not the best in critical moments and in that sittuations its more important driver skills than the car

This reminds me of a story I had once read. And, thru the magic of Google, I can share the story with everyone here.

An incident in Dallas two weeks later highlighted Senna’s incredible precision and talent even early in his F1 career.

Pat Symonds, the executive director of engineering with the Mild Seven Renault team these days, was Senna’s race engineer at Toleman in 1984.

“Dallas was what I would call ‘an old fashioned’ North American street circuit, lined with big concrete blocks,” Symonds said. “It was a very tricky circuit and bumpy enough to make even Monaco look smooth! After qualifying well, and running as high as fourth, Ayrton Senna eventually had to retire with damage caused by hitting the wall.

“On returning to the pits, he seemed shocked that he could have hit the wall. His immediate reaction was, ‘I know I didn’t make a mistake – the wall must have moved!’ The concrete block in question weighed about 20 tons, and we were naturally skeptical, but he was so persistent that he actually persuaded me to walk around the circuit and take a look.

“When I did so, the wall had indeed moved – somebody had clearly clipped the previous block and in doing so, displaced the next one by only about 4 millimeters (0.16 of an inch), so the transition between the two blocks was no longer smooth but marked with a tiny step.

“That was when the precision to which he was driving really hit home for me. Don’t forget that this was a guy in his first season of Formula One, straight out of Formula 3.”

I am hesitant to post this especially on the anniversary but my father insists I uphold Prost's honor. He responds to your story like the engineer he is, Prost had a better winning percentage, he earned more avg points per race, he won more world championships, and he did not collide with other drivers half as often as Senna. During the two years they were teammates, Prost scored more points. If you want an exciting driver who will give you exhilarating qualifying laps, go with Senna. If you want to win points and races, it is Prost.
