B4MV is definitely that guitar solo shredding music that works well for me at the gym.
I like these guys - my 17 year-old son turned me onto them.

I got punched in the face by a security guard at an Atreyu show in '04. One of the best nights of my life. Ended up backstage partying with them and Funeral For a Friend before getting invited to Dan Jacobs birthday party later that night.

I saw them on that same tour. I've seen both bands twice. Atreyu has great CDs that I can play from end to end but FFAF is hit or miss the whole way through, though the good songs are really good.

Well. You can't ask for shredding and expect to stay hard metal free. Maybe some stuff more along what you're looking for?

3 inches of blood. Practically a direct homage to Maiden... These guys rock. While he definitely screams, I don't think it's the same as the harder "death" metal voices.

[u2b]<object width="580" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JO7TZGgBbOw&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JO7TZGgBbOw&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="580" height="360"></embed></object>[/u2b]

The Sword, I love these guys' sound. I bought both of their albums on vinyl.

[u2b]<object width="445" height="364"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pA-53uavtyA&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pA-53uavtyA&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="445" height="364"></embed></object>
[/u2b]

The "Supergroup" Chickenfoot, more bluesy and don't really what I consider shred, but then again you asked for shredding and then mentioned The White Stripes. Good, they are. Shred, they do not...

[u2b]<object width="580" height="360"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KKkxxLEBwBo&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KKkxxLEBwBo&hl=en_US&fs=1&border=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="580" height="360"></embed></object>
[/u2b]

Hopefully you like one or find one you haven't heard yet...

Seen Clutch before and it's a pretty good concert. They're my friends favorite band.

Love Killswitch too.

This is one of my favorite bands (though they're breaking up so I'll need to find a replacement). Scary Kids Scaring Kids - not the hardest thing out there but far from the softest and plenty "shreddy." I was reluctant to mention them but since Smashing Pumpkins was brought up there is clearly nothing too soft for this thread.

+1. Dustin Kensrue decided to turn his band into an experimental/indie type band..they have some songs that shred, but in their current form, they will never reproduce the high energy shredding that was Illusion of Safety. Deadbolt and In Years to Come are my two favorite off that album, with deadbolt being the ultimate shred music. What's nice about the band is that usually you expect to hear shitty vocals following a sweet riff (like lamb of god) but Dustin has some good vocals goin on.

On a side note, shortly after purchasing TAITA, I was listening to the title song and totaled my car, right about the part where he goes into "brakes lock, hear the tires squeal" is the last thing I remember before waking up in the ER stuck between two brothers on either side of me who were in the ER for shooting each other. haha.

Facepalm to the Smashing Pumpkins? srsly?
There are different types of shredding. Don't be so narrow-minded. I already explained myself.

I don't dislike Smashing Pumpkins one bit, it fact I quite like them but perhaps you're looking for good early alternative music. There seems to be a unanimous disagreement with your definition of shredding.

Verb 1. shred - tear into shreds, rip up

Smashing Pumpkins does not tear anything into shreds. This is why I gave that the facepalm.

Pantera
Slayer
Judas Priest
Exodus
Anthrax
STEEL PANTHER (yes check it out, thy are fucking hilarious and totally rock)
ACDC
Sabbath
Testament
Metallica (old, before they became sober and James melted himself)
Symphony X (they are metal, but dont scream and have face melting riffs)
Protest the Hero (good riffs)
Dragonforce

If you want metal ever, drop me a line

damn I didn't know that. A little metal in me just died.

To the OP, you're shooting down a lot of quality stuff. But, based on your criteria I think I've got one for you...

Talented? Check
NO screamo voices? Check
Shred... Hell (heck) yeah!

Yes it's over eight minutes long. Yes it's worth it. Even if you don't find what you're looking for I've found 4-5 more bands in this thread I know I'm going to be listening to. Not fail.
