I think it does, it actually often elevates it. If we really wanna get serious, I'd say your "WTF" theory applies in every state outside of major cities. NY blows outside of NYC. Florida blows outside of Miami. I personally think LA just blows in general.

There are plenty of people who live in the middle of "non existent WTF" who would absolutely hate living in a major market. It's not that there's nothing going on, it's different strokes for different folks. Check out Warren Buffet's zip code. It amuses me how people on the coasts assume the whole country is looking at them like they are the center(s) of the universe, when for the most part, we really couldn't care less.

That was probably a Business Week ranking which only ranks inside the US IIRC

Tired of hearing New Yorkers preach about how NY is the center of the Universe.

Tired of hearing Californians preach about California being the center of the Universe.

There can only be one. If we arm both of you to the teeth and let you duke it out for "Center of the Universe" title, then we all win by virtue of elimination of one or the other.

Ehhh.... I mean SUNY has a few good schools, but its nothing to write home about IMHO. UMASS is kinda mehh. I dont know. I think the problem with a state school is that they generally have to let their residents in, whether they are smart or retarded. Sure, the UC system is pretty nose up in the air about who they let in but most state systems arent.

As for the for the center of the universe, it is NY. Its our financial center and therefore our center.

Everything is so diversified by now it's just such an outdated mentality, and I can't help but roll my eyes. It's like when people say to "buy American" it really just provides some critical insight into their thought process that you don't know where to start, or if you even should. I guess the closest thing anyone can claim to have a stranglehold on is LA and the film industry, though it's not what it once was.

Once "market hub" NY is strongly rivaled by Chicago and London exchanges (and used to be Tokyo), and while I guess they are the fashion capital of the US, they're no Milan or Paris. I believe most im/ex is handled through NJ ports, and major manufacturing hasn't been in cities for decades...

Don't get me wrong, I love NY, and always have a great time when I go. But there are just as many ignorant/oblivious people there than there are anywhere else.

The problem is that it just simply isn't, and anyone in finance or business can tell you this.

Not unless you call Atlanta first.

9/11 doesn't make NYC the center of the universe. This logic is so retarded I'm going to stop there. (And don't think they haven't tried)

I agree with almost everything you are saying here... Except the argument about the exchanges. Not strongly rivaled by anyone. Research the numbers.

If you are simply talking stocks, you're right. However, futures, options, and commodities aren't exactly "new"

Yeah I know it wasn't perfect. That's why I said "kinda". But to think the only plots have been against New York is kinda ignorant. Sure, it draws more ire than most other US cities, but that's not to say that it's the only place worth hitting for a terrorist. Chicago is vital to the nation's infrastructure as well.

I already posted a link of someone trying to blow up Wrigleyville above. Strange because I was actually in the area that night, and I rarely go downtown
