Well, clearing 4.0 also removes Installous 4, so it seems you have to clear 4.0, remove 4.X+, reinstall Installous again (which will reinstall 4.0).

you need appsync from Hackulos repo, because Installous depends on that one.
remove the one one from sinfuliphone

Ya, I'll do that once I'm on wifi at home.

fuck, 4.3.1 is being a complete bitch so far.

pwnage tool preserves baseband, so i am on 1.59.00, and because of that i have only 1 signal bar. I may have to re-jailbreak again when the fix comes out in a couple of days (fix timeline according to MuscleNerd)

biteSMS now shows pictures of random-ass contacts. Friend of mine texts me and it shows a picture of my GF. My GF texts me, and I see a picture of some other random-ass person. When i text the, everything seems fine.

Oh, battery level in the status bas and batter charge screen shows different info. 57% in the status bar, 94% on the lock screen. WTF?

fuuuuuck. no my computer claims that the phone is locked with the password, even though it is unlocked and im browsing the goddamn internet
Since ImageCapture is always and intermediary step, I cant import my pictures.

Why u guys feel the need to update on a regular basis?

I'm at 4.0.2 and 1.59.00 and think I'll wait till unlock for newer basebands comes out before updating to 4.2.1 (or 4.3.1 if stable).

It's a sport... and a hobby

And "stable" is a relative term. You know what you are getting into when you jailbreak, and once you get a shitload of mobile substrate add-ons,
you are pretty much guaranteed to have problems.

I upgraded because my FaceTime wouldn't work. Other than that, I'd still be on 4.1

You're absolutely right.

I've jailbroken 150-200 phones and to each person I strongly recommend to not even open cydia (I install installous for them).

i am avoiding 4.3 and 4.3.1 for now. People have been getting text msg from AT&T telling them to stop tethering or sign up for a tethering plan

it appears there is something in the new firmware that reports when tethering is in use

and I agree, if you dont know what you are doing stay away from cydia or you will have problems

Well I have an upgraded BB so that doesn't concern me...

My QuickReply is showing the correct pictures for contacts... as is Cyntact.
Wonder why yours isn't?

My battery is fine..

Haha I'm a bit different... I told them to explore on Cydia but not install anything and if they want something, to ask me about it

That I haven't heard of... that sucks...

But then again, even when I have used tethering in the past, I haven't gone over 2GB.... so I don't think I should have a problem.
TetherMe FTW!
Which tether app do you guys use?

Has nothing to do with firmware, but rather with the traffic you generate.
Deep packet inspection would easily reveal that the traffic is originating from something other than an iPhone. Whatever firmware you use, all network traffic goes through AT&T routers, and they know what you are doing.

Basically when network traffic travels though routers, only packet headers are inspected by the network hardware/software to determine identification, TTL, protocol, source, destination and so on. Payload of the packet is not inspected, because it is irrelevant to the traffic routing.

With deep packet inspection you can see the actual payload of each packet, so you can get WAY more information from that. Without DPI there is no way for AT&T to know if you are tethering or not. All they see is regular network traffic originating from your phone, but with DPI they can see different patterns of traffic, which are unlikely for a phone that does not use tethering.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deep_packet_inspection
Quote:
Deep packet inspection (DPI) is the act of any packet network equipment which is not an endpoint of a communication using non-header content (typically the actual payload) for some purpose. This is performed as the packet passes an inspection point, searching for protocol non-compliance, viruses, spam, intrusions or predefined criteria to decide what actions to take on the packet, including collecting statistical information. There are multiple headers for IP packets, network equipment only needs to use the first of these (the IP header) for normal operation, but use of the second header (TCP, UDP etc) is normally considered to be shallow packet inspection (usually called Stateful Packet Inspection) despite this definition.[1]
Deep Packet Inspection (and filtering) enables advanced network management, user service, and security functions as well as internet data mining, eavesdropping, and censorship. Although DPI technology has been used for Internet management for many years, some advocates of net neutrality fear that the technology can be used anticompetitively or to reduce the openness of the Internet.[2]
DPI is currently being used by the enterprise, service providers and governments in a wide range of applications.[3]

You can't really get rid of cydia (i guess you can if you really really want to), but you can hide the icon.
Plus you want to keep it, to install Installous updates

1. Add http://cydia.hackulo.us repository
2. Install Installous
3. ....
4. Porfit

well, i don't think they cherry-pick who to inspect. that would be very time consuming.
im pretty sure they inspect EVERYTHING and have software that alerts them when your account uses tethering without having the service provisioned on your account.

But why are you worried? Worst thing that can happen is them charging you $20 for data. They don't want to lose a customer, they just want MOAR money

You can install CyDelete and if you unprotect Cydai, it'll uninstall it
