I've been reading up on the mods which are available to help our "weak" '11-'12 Shelbys put the power down better, and it seems some of them are pretty damn cheap and easy to implement. I wonder just how much Ford will sacrifice the somewhat Gran Tourer softness of the GT500 to make all of these horses available.... I'm assuming since they're aiming for 200MPH that this is a no-holds-barred effort, especially considering this is probably the swan song for the LRA Stang, bowing out in the most spectacular way possible.... I hope they've compromised as much "comfort" as possible for the sake of realizing the potential of that engine.

Have to respect the numbers coming out of the Ford camp but I sure don't hope we see people wrapping these cars around trees. Does your purchase come with driving school? I mean, driving a street legal 650hp car will take some added talent IMO.

In my own mind, 550HP and 650HP are the same to me in this package; scary and too much to harness at my skill level. However, if they make this '13 that much better at handling the power, all that means is that people will be going faster when the shit hits the fan. Ford honestly could make this S197 handle this kind of power efficiently; owners have done it with previous model years themselves, but it comes at a price (comfort and labor-hour wise). |

You are feeding the stigma perfectly. Enjoy your four door family car.

But yet you feel the need to bash Ford and the Shelby GT500. Yeah you're Real smart man. I guess you just need to put other cars down to feel better about your F10 pig. That equals elitist.

It's alright though, the pig new and stock cost more than $14k less than a BASE 550. Look, I respect the 550 for what it is, what I don't respect is your comment. It's more than just a little hypocritical for you to call the Shelby a pig. And yeah, good for you, you got a tune and some Schnitzer pieces.... And even though you spent an assload more than the ZL1 costs, you still get your rocks off by comparing your tuned car's performance to a stock unmodified car. Congratulations. You tuned an already significantly more expensive car to be faster than a car that isn't tuned. Tuned vs tuned, forget about it. Dollar for dollar, forget about it. Also, news flash: NOT all 490 of your crank HP make it to the road. |

I like how GM is being all big headed with the ZL1. They designed the car to compete with the Boss and GT500 while Ford designed the GT500 to compete with the Ford GT. Someone was doing it right. The GT500 is going to destroy the ZL1, no question about that. The ZL1 will be cheaper but I'd still choose the any year model GT500 over the Camaro. Let it loose about 400lbs at least and then I "might" consider it.
Comparing a Luxury car (that cost more) to a Sports (technically Super Car IMO now) car is irrelevant. You're better off comparing your Luxury car to a CTS-V Coupe, Sedan or Wagon. |

For everyone that thought the pricing would see an astronomical increase, the base price sits right above the ZL1 at $54,200 (as opposed to $54,095). Factor in the $2k gas guzzler tax on the Camaro as well.
It'll be around $60k with performance pack and recaros, but for everyone who said this thing would be (base) mid to high $60s, you were very wrong. Even in base form, that's a lot of car for ~$55k The online configurator is up at ford.com Last edited by ragingclue; 03-15-2012 at 11:00 AM.. |

600hp on rwd sounds dangerous.... especially on a hefty car (compare to corvettes) its tail end is going to come out every time you squeeze that throttle through a turn

650HP, we'll see.... But supposedly Ford has put a lot of work into the traction control systems, suspension, brakes, etc... It'll be interesting to see what the final result is when all is said and done and one of these gets out in the wild. |

600hp on a rwd platform isnt an issue. Proper throttle response and counter steering will keep it tracking properly. I have driven an '10 GT500 and it handles nicely, I expect the new Shelby to do so as well.
I own a 600+ bhp C6. |
