Its all the same. So do you consider the 3 to be entry level? If the 1 series is - and a 3 series is simply a 1 series with a stretched wheelbase and different skin (and visa versa) - then logic would dictate that you think the 3 is entry level.

I for one think you should have more faith in the company. As 1er quality is on par with 3er quality and everything else down the line.

What you fail to realize is that all auto manufacturers share equipement between models. All BMWs run on the same running gear - have the same infotainment systems - some even share the same seats.

My 1er has more in common with a 5 series than it doesnt.

So when you argue "what would you expect from an entry level car" I respond with what you expect from ANY bmw - because mechanically theyre all almost identical.

Anyway, I drove about a 1000 miles in a 2012 S60 2.0T last week and have nothing but good things to say about it.
It's got everything you want from a DD (maybe except the performance) and the V60 with the R-design package looks absolutely amazing imo.

No OP said his car was unreliable - thats not indicative of the car as a whole and every once in a while theres a bad egg.

My car was one of those but I chose to stick it out and fix it. OP had a bad car - some people do and thats not insulting to me.


You calling my 50K car cheap and entry level is what insulted me. You used entry level in a negative context - you used it to belittle 1 series owners. And that isnt right.

Anyway, I remembered a story on it that pertains to the thread. I go up to Maine with a friend of mine some weekends during the summer. He takes up his dads 09 V70 and I take the 1er. There are a few unmonitored stretches of road where we push up to 130 when it's safe. And I'm honestly surprise how quick it is to get up to those speeds. And it's stable as hell too,

Seriously, you think that you need to spend $70K to find a good car? What weird world do you live on? Does the Dakota (or whatever) leather on our "lower" BMW models not conform to your ass just the right way? Congrats, you have a lot of money. We're not talking about beater Civics here, I think you're pretty safe choosing any luxury car line. The rest is just nit picking. Anyone who can even afford a C250 or 328i is already richer than 95+% of the world.


Volvos are good cars. Not as fun as a BMW, but you have your S4. You'll enjoy your purchase. The 1 series is great but not for everyone.
