They don't feel that the car hit something as their senses are numbed by age. I guess we'll all get there some day. Slightly true. slightly false. Teenagers do get into some bad accidents but typically the only person/s involved are themselves and the unfortunate passengers in their car. On the other hand elderly people hit many many items, ex. poles, garage doors, other cars, CROWDS OF PEOPLE. I have never read 1 story of a out of control teenager driving through a festival. But you read almost yearly of some old person flooring it through a crowd of people cuz they can't hit the fucking break:mad:. They have been driving for 50+ years, you would think they know the break is on the left? If they forgot, well bye bye license, hello public transportation.

Yes it would suck to loose your freedom of driving. In fact that is my fiances argument because both sets of her grandparents are close to hitting 80 y/o. Her grandma still drives and has advanced glaucoma. She is practically blind in 1 eye, and has severe tunnel vision in the other, yet still cruises during the day. Safe? HELL FUCKING NO! My grandma had the same scenario, she sold her car and relied and me and my family to help her out.

The problem here is people have no remorse for faulting a teenager and removing their license but when it comes to an elderly person you'll back them like their your own grandparents no matter how many strollers they hit last week to save their freedom.

I'm with these guys. The day we start choosing possessions over people, we are all in big trouble. I don't know if you are fortunate enough to have a Grandma still, but I know if you treated mine like you allege to have treated this woman, you would have found yourself explaining your anger to me instead of her. She was wrong, but consider it is the same schmucks with no respect for elders that won't let a lady of any age sit down on public transportation and yet we wonder why they won't use it. You want the elderly people off the road, consider that it may take more than just you sad little tirade about a scratch on your car to accomplish that. There are programs everywhere to help the elderly stay off the roads. Why don't you take some of your negative energy and try and solve the problem and stop acting like it's a problem someone else should be solving.

It sucks that your new car got jacked up, but that's life. You're fortunate that you caught the person who hit it and that she is willing to pay to fix it. Maybe you owe her an apology as much as she may owe you one. Also consider your deliberate actions might be far worse than her accidental ones.

Totally understand how it felt,...i used to live in Brooklyn, NY in an apt that looks like an old folks home...people were nice..that is fine, but my rear bumper got scratched the first few days I parked there....spots were abundant which pisses me off....so I moved....since my car is dark, the mark is not very noticeable and my dealer try to fix it FOC..which looks fine to me...I won't see it unless I concentrate and look.

Yet again I re-itterate:

OK let me put it in the most simplest terms to those who oppose screaming:

I really do not care if the person was old/young/down syndrome; you hit my f*cking car, I'm going to yell/scream/flip out at you. Plain and simple.

I really want to see all of your reactions when you are looking at your car bieng hit. For the people who bend over and hand the other party some vaseline, well thats you. I on the other hand don't like when my car is bieng fucked with and at that moment, YES, I did loose my control. Please pardon my initial reaction.

Yes, me and her came to terms. Yes, she was polite afterwards. Yes, I gained my composure. But this was all after the first 10 minutes of arguing/screaming, for the remainder of the time that we were there, me and her just hung out and talked. She was very nice. If you want her # for a sweet time, I will gladly give it to you.

On the lighter side, I went down to my dealer this morning and got an estimate of the damages to send to her. The final figure comes out to $1,003.86 which includes a new bumper cover and repaint. Think she'll pay? Hmm....

I have to agree with shpuntik. She admitted to it and stuck around for the police, etc. She agreed to pay the damages. It sucks that your car got damaged but it is easily repairable. Put yourself in her shoes. I hope people have some compassion for all of us when we are 90.

I hope she doesn't have to struggle too hard to figure out how to pay for it. Most people at 90 have very tight and fixed incomes.

Well, then you're ignorant. The old lady should have smacked you with her purse. Maybe she has poor vision, and arthritis in her hands or neck and was doing the best she could given her conditions. The fact that you talked (well, yelled) at her and she aggreed to pay to repair it should be all you need. Is it a hassle? Of course. But, it's a car...it has bumpers...they can be repaired easily.

It's not like she ran up and keyed your car!
I've watched my car(s) get hit TWICE, and both times, I simply walked up to the person and had a normal conversation with them and got their info. Was I angry afterwards? Sure. No one likes the hassle of going to a body shop and being without a car or dealing with a rental. But, no need to scream and be an ass then and there, when the person is admitting fault and willing to make it right.

Sorry, I do understand how you could be angry and don't blame you for having normal emotions. To me, it shouldn't matter what age the driver is. If they are driving a car and have a valid drivers license they should be able to navigate around other cars and not hit a car parked safely in a parking spot. If they can't, they shouldn't be driving. I was recently hit and I didn't get angry until the lady suggested that the ding on my brand new 335i bumper wasn't big enough to worry about. WHAT?????? She had just hit a car that had only 213 miles on it and didn't think I should be concerned. Her comment was this was just the first of many dings I would likely get, so I should just shrug and get over it. She hit the wrong new MBW that day. I'm sure the OP regrets yelling at an older lady, but I completely understand how and why he did. We shouldn't be beating him up for having normal emotions.

Guys, as I have stated before, it was my INITIAL reaction. We both settled down, and everything was fine and dandy. Maybe your initial reactions or the way you go about your business is different than mine, but like I have said before... you fuck with my property, you get shit from me. Thats the way I am, end of story. You cannot say that this is wrong just because you would have handled it diffrently, I'm not even talking about the obvious which is that old people should not be driving AT ALL because they are a hazard to society.

Next time you read about a 70 year old man/woman driving thru a crowd of people, remember this thread.

"This, too, shall pass."

That's what Mom always told me. Sorry to hear about your incident. I do think you're lucky it wasn't the more common hit-and-run and that you'll be compensated for the damages (which are a minor inconvenience). I can understand being angry about it, too, but in my experience, yelling at people is a poor motivator for desired behavior. It usually escalates the situation and accomplishes nothing. In the end, it's good that you both took your time and sorted things out.

Looks like she hit you twice, once square on the front of the bumper and then side scrapes, or is the picture showing something else on the bumper.

Sorry for your inconvenience, but dude that's not bad at all!! At least you caught the culprit red-handed. My car was hit and run over the labor day weekend and what do i get? A friggin $350 bill for the repair out of my own pocket. See the link below.

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81879

Good luck with the repair though.

I totally agree .. NO WAY IN HELL I'd be relaxing with a NEW car and it's already scratched/dented .. and who else knows what. I would DEMAND a BRAND NEW BUMPER installed by BMW. Sorry, but no way I would let this go. I am sure she is possibly a very nice lady .. but, you pay for accidents. Sorry .. and I DO have alot of empathy for you guy .. ((

BEST OF LUCK ..

Sometimes these things are hidden blessings. I would get 2 or 3 quotes from local bodyshops for the repair to your bumper...and then provide them to the person to pay in cash. Then I'd use that cash to get a M-Tech front bumper and get that installed. AND NO INSTALLATION OF F'ING FRONT PLATE SINCE I FORGOT TO TELL MY DEALER.

Hell...who am I kidding...I'd probably get the whole M-Tech aero kit from Tischer....
