Talking on the phone is one thing. Before blue tooth I wouldn’t answer my phone if I was driving. I will now but shut down the conversation saying I’ll call back later. But drivers with their faces in their phones? WHY? What is so fucking important? A guy almost wiped me out Friday morning. Him in middle lane, me passing in left as he drifts left into me because he’s got his face in his phone looking at instagram doing 70 mph?!?!?!? Assholes! I see it constantly.

Get off my lawn!
This is one reason I dumped my G20 M340i and went back to the F30 340i M Sport. The F30 is more techie than I would prefer, but the G20 was just too much for me. It didn’t help that it is noticeably physically bigger than the F30. I loved the 382 hp B58 and the ZF8 in the G20. The ZF was absolutely perfectly tuned for the motor, but I really haven’t missed the horsepower going back to the F30 B58 and I’m much happier with the car I have now.

Before I moved my dad to Chicago almost two years ago I took the train almost everywhere and only drove when it suited me and that was mostly just in the city. Now I drive to a not too far away suburb almost every day to see my dad and I have used my horn more in the last 18 months than in my entire previous 45 years of driving. And it’s mainly for drivers looking at the phone when the light changes and they just sit there.

When I first got a phone with Bluetooth and I got a headset I thought driving while talking would be okay. It didn’t take me long to realize that still steals way too much attention from driving. I didn’t completely stop. I used to talk with my mom while I was driving, but when things started to get a little hairy I would tell her I had to hang up and pay attention to my driving. I rarely talk while driving anymore.

I used to use the hands-free system in my car to talk to friends or family during my hour long commute when I worked at the U of I. But I would only talk while I was on the highway. As soon as I got close to my exit, I ended the conversation. Driving on a highway in light traffic is fine with hands-free. But once I get into traffic, forget it. I'm too busy paying attention to my driving to carry on a conversation.

And while I hate everything about Teslas, most of those people who ran into the back of that pack of cars simply weren't paying attention or were driving too fast for conditions.

Late to the party, but...

Hip replacement, just a little over a month to go for mine. I can't wait! Hurts like a mofo.

Gout, yep, been dealing with that for 7 years. Although I had a work-mate that had it in his mid 30's, I didn't get it till I was 48. Awful, awful, awful. I took it as a sign from God to slow down on things I overindulged in, and it helped. (Dropped a bunch of weight, too.) Indomethicin helped more. Haven't had an attack for almost 2 years. (Knock wood...) Did I say awful? Yep, awful. Worst. Shit. Ever.

Tech... Currently running iDrive8, and I LOVE it. I shut off all that driver assist crap, and the rest of the tech is AWESOME!!!

I'm only 55, and leaving those lawns that I should right now.

Said it before and I'll say it again: good luck with your hip replacement. I've been lucky so far. Got my original hips and knees and no pain to speak of.

Years ago I got some serious knee pain in my right knee. Have been doing leg/knee exercises since and the pain went away. Hope it stays gone but you never know. I walk 3 miles almost every night and that helps too.

Never had gout but I watch my wife suffer with it. No fun at all, poor girl. I hope you don't get it again, Hubba.

Thank you, brother. Me too!!! All the best to your wife, and suggest Indomethicin at the first sign of pain. Has not let me down yet.

Thanks, Hubba. I'lll tell her so she can discuss it with her doctor.

She takes Allopurinol for the gout. She gets gout from too much uric acid which comes from kidney disease that she's had for a few years.

I'm not a Dr, and I didn't stay in a Holiday Inn Express last night, but worth a shot! Gout is a real bummer. I feel for her! Give her my love, and hoping she get's a good solution!

My 1985 Mazda RX-7 had a manual choke. It was the base model with the cute, little 4-barrel carburetor. The primaries were the size of dimes and the secondaries were the size of nickels.

Loved that car.
