Sounds like the X8 hasn't died on the design table, during the COVID crisis. Thought it might.

X8 lives. The first fully stand alone BMWM car in this era.

M GmbH 2020: We will have a standalone M car and it will be a 5500lbs SUV.

M GmbH 2000: burns the office to the ground and drives into the sunset in his clown shoe.

m4 gran coupe

Sorry if this has been asked and answered. I couldn't find it. I know the base M3 (G80) and M4 (G82) will come with 6MT standard for RWD. I also have read that the M4 will come in a convertible (G83) and a Gran Coupe (G84?). Will the Gran Coupe and convertible be available with the manual?

No, there is no indication that will happen.

Can we reasonably expect G05 X5 LCI as MY22? Would iNext or iX5 have any impact on LCI roadmap?

Most likely will be MY23, as LCI tends to happen for the 5th production year. Doubt the i-models will impact it at all.

If they don't manage to build the iX5 on the current architecture (i.e., not another iX3), they might pull another no-LCI cycle to fast-track the iX5. There's no indication of that happening so far though, AFAIK.

I doubt it, base on ynguldyn info it sounds like the the iNext is being positioned at the x5 level.

For customers at that price level (at least for the time being as Evs continue to ramp) consumers will likely prefer a stand out unique vehicle vs a "plain" X5. It will make more sense to take the learnings from that program and incorporate into a next gen x5 on the usual lifecycle.

Yeah, I was thrown off by the iX5 and took it at face value, but now I realize that is what the german press likes to call the iNext, so I also doubt there will be a proper iX5 soon (unless they rebrand the iNext to it at the last minute, but then it won't have anything to do with the current X5)

Still excited for the X8. Just don't think I can hold off my own purchase until it comes out, independent of the potential to be able to afford it.

Is the F36 EOP still 6/2021? It has been completely removed from BMWUSA.com, both from model section and build your own section.

Guess: Lies a bit lower than a G05, a bit wider and nearly the same length.

There haven't been any mule sightings of an M4 GC so far, so I really doubt at least the mid-2021 timeline they are claiming.

I mean, the Touring is doing track testing now, and won't arrive till 2022.

Yep, that's why we can treat the carbuzz story as fan fiction.

The general rule for adding a body style is that if it doesn't happen by the LCI, it won't happen at all. The G81 is testing now for release at G20/G21/G80 LCI time. Could a G86 technically start testing as late as next year for release at G22/G23/G26/G82/G83 LCI time? Yes, but there's not a single hint yet that it will. The G81 snuck up on us though, so a G86 could theoretically do the same. Don't bet on it, but maybe say a few words to car gods if you wish for this M4 Gran Coupe to be more than some auto journo's click-bait.

What's interesting is I believe there was an i4 M spy shot of the car out and about that had those fender wideners denoting a slightly wide track and M mirrors. We have heard that the i4M was to be M performance level not full M but I wonder if it might possibly be getting something closer to the full M treatment and fill the lineup slot for an M4 gran coupe. Bmw usually doesn't do that extensive of modifications for the m performance level. With 523hp it's going to be brutally fast, so I can definitely see that car occupying yet another middle ground between the m performance and full M. Maybe they even sneak in full M branding even if it remains a few ticks behind the M3/M4 in dynamics

The carbuzz story also said "manual transmission", and my first reaction was "unlikely". In reality, I would choose anything with a manual. If there were no manual anywhere, I would keep my 340 until they had to bury me in it.
