ok, so i'm totally afraid of Photoshop, so i never touch it if i can help it.
I'm wanting to learn though, so any pictures you see of mine are in their original form, other then me tinkering with the camera. i liked the colors on these stairs. |

I took this one earlier today... by mistake actually, but I think it turned out pretty cool.

Thanks!
Bill, I keep forgetting to comment on your photo every time I load this page... I really like the sky! I remember there was a ittens contrast contest sometime ago, and you should've entered this pic. I like how it seems fiery below in the trees, and frigid in the sky.

Napoleon House by dcstep, on Flickr This was shot in New Orleans with my 5D2, 24-105mm f/4L IS lens, at ISO-6400 and processed with DxO's Optics Pro 6.5.1 Dave

^^^^^ Wow, virtually no noise. Pretty cool for ISO 6400.

Two keys are the 5D2 and DxO's Optics Pro. At 100% you can see the noise prior to processing, but DxO takes it away without killing the details. Also, don't underexpose.

Well, can't afford the 5D2, but I can spring for DxO. Been thinking about it for awhile. Got a new T1i coming, so I'll probably need all the noise help I can get.

I had that before, and i found everything overexposed with it. And yes, you'll want that other program for it's ability to take out noise. if you haven't picked up the T1i, i would recommend giving the T2i a second look before you commit. If you're with the T1i, just make sure you always use your choices of white balance, I found the auto white balance left pictures looking pretty flat. Also, if you have the choice, trade the standard 18-55mm IS that comes with it ASAP, most lenses out there will be sharper on that body. That lense works well on the XS and XSI, but not the T1i or above cameras. Just too many pixels in too small an area for the lens to optimize for. Hope this helps. You should be able to get about 50$ on trade with the lens hopefully if you are looking to change it up. The video is a very nice feature on that camera though |

If you're serious about low noise, appropriate saturation, appropriate contrast and WB, then shoot everything in RAW. With RAW you'll gain a couple of EV of dynamic range and you won't need to worry about WB until RAW conversion, when you can correct all you want with no deterioration in IQ.
The T2i is a great camera, but the T1 can give great results. The T2i will be superior at high-ISOs.

the best thing i did when i had the T1i was buying a 17-85mm IS USM lens. I feel it made the camera usable to me. My friend now has that lens from me and loves it, and uses it primarily.
I found the lens also got back quite a bit of the color that was lost using the standard 18-55 that came with the camera. was like comparing a DVD and Blueray.... And yes, experiment with raw.. |
