Not old enough to know the innuendo you are throwing up, none of my skates ever needed keys.

Always imagined a skate key to be something akin to a fixed socket wrench, aka a "hole", aka female

Sorry Wede, I’ve already got a gardener. I’ll keep you in mind if he ever needs a helper.

Sidewalk roller skates were metal platforms that you attached to your shoes, and the key was needed to adjust them to fit/hold.

As for the innuendo:

Are you serious?! If you’re serious I’m afraid you’re going to have to depart this thread.

Back in the day we took the song to have a sexual meaning, though when asked Melanie said it wasn't about sex.

That's the problem with the Internet. Everything is 2D or sound. Picture, video, etc. When do we get replicators?

I don't know about you, but I designed/built my own replicator (3D printer) almost 10 years ago. The plan was to use it for producing full-size replicas of parts that I needed for building a race car from scratch, and we all know how that ended after my hospital stay shortly afterwards.

There's a public collection of 3D stuff that others have created and shared on thingiverse.com, if you're looking for Yoda heads, car cell phone mounts, and all kinds of things. Still not food yet, but you can print in PLA filament which smells like pancakes and maple syrup when it gets hot.....

you know you're old when this happens.

I was dating a much younger woman. Yes, someone who was more than old enough to be my daughter. She came to my company after grad school and worked as an intern.

After she moved in with me, we did everything together... including vacations.

We were in Marbella and having drinks at a bar by the beach. I went to the loo and as I was walking back, I heard a young man asking her "do you think your dad would mind if I ask you out tonight?"

I calmly turned around acted like I forgot something in the restroom. Waited another minute before walking back to the bar. The young man had left. She said nothing. It was at that moment that I realized that I was OLD.

I think you took it the way most people took it. If it wasn’t necessary sexual it definitely was about making a romantic connection.

I can’t deny that’s not a good sign. Just yesterday I was picking up my food from the counter at Panera Bread and a not so young lady asked me a question I’ve never been asked before. She was commenting on my southern accent, which happens a lot in Chicago. She said as soon as she hears my voice she knows it’s me. I eat there a lot. Then she asked me about my last name, which I think she was connecting with James Lovell. Then she asked if I had any sons she could marry!! That’s a first!! I was shocked!! And she was not a twenty something. I would guess she’s in her thirties at least. I’ve always felt like I looked pretty young for my age and most folks usually would guess about ten years younger than I actually was. But, that started changing once I hit fifty and folks have been getting closer for several years now. Anyway, that’s the first time someone in their thirties has indicated to me they thought I looked old enough to have children their age. btw, I’m single, never married, so I don’t think I look like I’ve been road hard and put up wet the way most of you with children do!!

I can tell that I've aged a lot in the last decade. Not so much physically, as I took up riding and have lost weight, so I'm in better physical condition now than I was 10 years ago. But my general appearance would suggest more than 10 years have gone by. Not much you can do about it, I guess.

Yes, definitely took it to mean sex. I was 16 years old when it came out. What else was I thinking about at that age? LOL

"Melanie has acknowledged the possibility of detecting sexual innuendo in the lyrics, but has denied any deeper meaning."

"[The song], "Brand New Key", I wrote in about fifteen minutes one night. I thought it was cute; a kind of old thirties tune. I guess a key and a lock have always been Freudian symbols, and pretty obvious ones at that. There was no deep serious expression behind the song, but people read things into it. They made up incredible stories as to what the lyrics said and what the song meant. In some places, it was even banned from the radio. My idea about songs is that once you write them, you have very little say in their life afterward. It's a lot like having a baby. You conceive a song, deliver it, and then give it as good a start as you can. After that, it's on its own. People will take it any way they want to take it."

Do you have a beard? My number one suggestion to men whose beard has turned gray. Shave it off. You will instantly look ten years younger!!

I admit I am not a fan of beards. In my opinion, very few men look really good with a beard. You have to have really strong facial features and basically you need to be the definition of tall, dark, and handsome. Most men with beards just look scraggly. Of course, I’m also big on short haircuts. I grew up in an Air Force base town and even before I joined the Army folks used to ask me if I was in the Air Force. In my view a clean, short haircut and a clean shaven face will take you from a four to at least a seven just like that!!

I had a beard most of my adult life. Got rid of it more than 10 years ago. Kept my beard neat and trimmed and just got tired of taking care of it. Much easier just to shave once a day now.

Same with my clothes. I have several pairs of pants and several shirts all the same. Just grab the next one every morning without thinking about what to wear. Learned it from Einstein. Less to think about.
