Failed to post this yesterday but a 2014 Pinot from Eagle’s Trace which is no longer produced. Was made by Gus Anderson who started Anderson’s Conn Valley (ACV) which I am a big fan of. Gus retired and then decided to start making wine again with Eagle’’s Trace. He has passed now and his son Todd runs ACV.

Try a French Muscadet. They don't cost much, and they're anything but sweet.

Generally, Muscadet wines are made to be drunk with food, although sipping on one outside on a hot afternoon would certainly work. My 2¢ on that score. They're also relatively low in alcohol, which offers flexibility in how you choose to enjoy them.

BTW, there are a lot of genuinely dry whites available from different parts of the world. A quality French Chablis will certainly hit the mark, although at a price. Dry whites are not just French, though - a search will offer up many possibilities at a range of price points.

I've had my fair share of all kinds of white wine, especially when I worked at a local wine store. I tried everything and white wine isn't for me.

What the hell happened to Cakebread? The Cabernet used to be one of my favorites. Somewhere around the 2014 vintage I didn’t like it. I know alot has to do with that years grapes. I tried it again a few years later and still didn’t like it. I just picked up a 2019 to give it a shot again. Me no like.

Is it just me?

Went to an art and wine festival today showcasing Arizona wines. Some were trash, but others quite tasty. Brought home a couple bottles each of my top 3. Also found some good hot sauce.

If you enjoy reds that are reasonably well-balanced between fruit, tannins, and alcohol (14.8% in this case), this is a wine worth seeking out.

Had a nice dinner tonight. The owner of the place dug up something for us that wasn’t on the list. We visited Donati maybe 10-12 years ago, and loved it. Very quaint winery with good juice.

Speaking of Daou, I bought a Paso Robles wine trip at a charity event over the weekend (it was for a great cause). Includes 3 night stay at La Bellasera hotel, airfare and car rental...

While Napa is always the gold standard, has anyone taken a vineyard tour of Paso Robles? Any recommendations? I know Daou would be one of them...

Yes, we spent a few days 10-12 years ago tasting along highway 46, all West of 101, as we were staying in Cambria. That's a beautiful little town, and getting there on 46 is one of my favorite drives ever. Just gorgeous through the hills, and the views of the Pacific are fantastic. Daou is on our list for next time for sure. Two that we really enjoyed were "Niner" and "Donati Family". Austin Hope is also very close to your hotel, and certainly worth a visit. There was one that stuck out as particularly not tasty, but I can't remember the name. The building was cool looking, it is a castle with a moat around it. Maybe they have upped their game since we were there, but we aren't going to try it next time... If you make it to Cambria, Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill was dynamite. A nice walk on the boardwalk after lunch and before heading out to more tastings would be my ideal day. Have a great time, and send pics!
