Not even to 8.5
As per BMW AG press releases, 8.5 upgrade will be only for.bigger models, fitted with the rotary controller.
U11 are not in current BMW plans for 8.5 upgrades.

That seems to be correct the XXX! will have idrive 8 or 9.
Mine was built in June, 25e phev and is running idrive 8 but how do I know which head unit I have.
Is there a chance it's fitted with the latest head unit H5 and can be updated to 9 at a later date?
How can you tell which head unit you have?

This is the latest head unit WAVElow_IDChighf

So if you look at your “Notes” app right at tbe bottom you should see the attached and if it says IDC that indicates the latest head unit apparently (so i’m told).

MAPMAN48 You seem pretty angry at life as well as the car for some reason. No car is perfect and some seem to find ID9 to be fine others are struggling. Not sure BMW wants its customers to have a bad experience far from it. We have had niggles with the car but no major issues with our ID8 PHEV others again not so lucky.

The car is new and ID9 needs more work but it’s not terrible just a bit beta ish, is that good in a car no but BMW really aren’t sitting there laughing.

Can't agree more.. there is no reason to keep blaming BMW on every aspect.. whatever they are doing as per their roadmap is ultimately for betterment of their products and consumer experience.

Based on the hardware support, we have a reason to rejoice
Are you sure there are currently MGU22 X1s out there?
That would be great news as the MGU22 is the HU compatible with 8.5.

IMO, i fear all ID8 X1s will be stuck with ID8;

Are you referring to this line?
It's called "red line" and it's there to indicate the unsafe RPMs zone for your engine, meaning that you shouldn't be revving at those RPMs or you may risk some engine failures.
In the past it was something to really keep in account, especially downshifting on a manual transmission; nowadays most engines and transmissions will automatically kill the ignition if you reach the red zone.
The red line has been on RPM gauges since the dawn of motoring, are you sure your previous cars didn't have it?

I guess they did so in order to adhere to the international standard of units. ml stands for milliliter and folks at BMW for sure didn't want that kind of confusion. Quoting from Wikipedia:
Quote:
Abbreviation
The mile has been variously abbreviated in English—with and without a trailing period—as "mi", "M", "ml", and "m".[4] The American National Institute of Standards and Technology now uses and recommends "mi" to avoid confusion with the SI metre (m) and millilitre (ml).[5] However, derived units such as miles per hour or miles per gallon continue to be abbreviated as "mph" and "mpg" rather than "mi/h" and "mi/gal". In the United Kingdom, road signs use "m" as the abbreviation for mile though height and width restrictions also use "m" as the symbol for the metre, which may be displayed alongside feet and inches.[6] The BBC style holds that "there is no acceptable abbreviation for 'miles'" and so it should be spelled out when used in describing areas.[7]

Yes, from hardware point of view.. all U11 X1s are either id8.5 or id9 compatible.. however, it still depends on BMW if they choose not to update the software on all existing delivered cars.

In my opinion, there is no reason they should not!

This is very interesting. Mine is entering production in October, I hope I will get at least 8.5 as an update in the future…

If it's still not produced, it would be most likely IDC23 unit which is ID9 compatible.
As mine is July, 2023 production with ID9 hardware.

Now I know I'm commenting in this ID9 thread but many also have issues with ID8.

But it seems VERY few updates if any at the moment are filtering through to cars. We had a .point release so a fix of something it didn't really say what but there hasn't been a major update on ID8 or ID9 at all yet for the X1.

I wonder when the next one is imminent as there are a good few bugs that need ironing out. Maybe with the tech in the car they should move to a much quick update cycle to match the tech. Not fair for many to have entire features missing let along bugs that could easily be solved with some code fairly minor changes.

This is something I’ve been wondering recently - BMW had been following a 4 monthly release cycle (the last being march) I was told there would be a IDrive9 update in July (which tracks with the release cycle) however it’s failed to materialise - I did go back to my dealer to get an update but was since ignored…

Yeah agreed would have thought to have seen a larger update sooner. Maybe they are still working to iron out more bugs pre wider distribution in November for ID9, but for ID8 that also has the odd issue I'd hope to see more on that as well.

Its odd my ID7 is solid as a rock I don't think I've spotted a single issue though it's not as sophisticated for some things but on the whole a more consistent experience.

My x1 was at the dealer last week for the GPS drift issue and they updated ID8 from 3/2023 to 7/2023, so there’s an update out there. Probably won’t be available OTA for a few more months, but dealers can update.

Good to know a fuller update is on the way. Has it fixed anything other than the drift that you had issues with before?

I honestly haven’t really had any other issues. The throttle feels a bit more responsive and smooth. Map colors have changed a bit. Fonts are slightly different. Otherwise haven’t noticed any meaningful changes.

How did you end up with ID9 if you're in the USA? I thought ID9 wasn't available on USA models until MY24.
