Usually its a scam. Been asked many times and its always a woman with a kid that needs to get somewhere or that shes divorcing her husband and running away to her parents, yada yada yada. 10 minutes later shes buying meth.

Couldn't have said it better scpage, this young lady may have been abused or trying to leave a useless guy; just hv to use ur instincts; but the Lord blesses it right back to you and once you "give" it, it's no longer yours to worry about what they did with it....

About two years ago, when I left my office at work and it was nighttime, I crossed the street and I walked back to my car and there was this dude, who was carrying a red gas tank and he was harassing me for gas money. This guy was like, "Hi, I'm Italian and my name is Tony and I need gas money really badly". I said, "where's your car", and the white Mazda Protege was paralled park between two cars. He said, "I'll pay you back", and he show me his cellphone. I told him, "why don't you call your friends or family to give you a ride or money" I walked away and this dude kept following me. I told him that I have no money and I only use credit card and debit and I even showed him my wallet. He didn't really believe me and he said, "you have cash". I gave him all my spare change because I felt sorry for him and he took it and he threw it on the ground. Then, I ended up running for my life as he was chasing me. I ended up running like 5 blocks and he lost me. I ran back to my car and I sped away. And guess what????? I saw the same dude on the street a week later. You can never trust people on the street these days.

i usually always do, because instead of taking a chance and guess that they're trying to scam me, i look into their eyes, no matter weather it be a scam or not, and would feel wrong not helping someone in need. I assume they are legitimately in distress and im only lossing 10-30 bucks anyway.

Simply saying that its the persons fault that they failed to be successful or save money is far too vague. There are so many complications that arise in life, from pregnancies, to deaths, loss of jobs, drugs, emotional distress, and so forth. So everyone falls down sometimes, and regardless of why, they need help standing up again. I cant tell the difference between someone who really needs my money for food, or someone who is just going to buy more alcohol and ciggs. But regardless, im going to do my part and help........again, im only loosing 10-30 bucks at the cost of helping someone out or helping someone realize that they need to get there life together eventually

I will do what they are asking for. I would pay for gas or buy food, rarely give cashi. If your first instinct is to give then give...if you think it is shady then pass.

I hear people who go around begging for money can make $200-$300+ a day. Like a lot of folks I never never carry cash with me. Whenever I get approached by anyone ( I always move to the other side of the car so I have the car between us(Of course I do this in a nonchalant way)) as soon as they ask for anything I tell them sorry cant help you, if they dont go and start to talk again I repeat sorry cant help you please leave.As soon as they turn around I get back into my car and drive off and go to another station. The last thing I want is someone to get close to me and be in striking distance with a knife.

I bet it was a scam, too, but I'd probably give her a few bucks. Back when I lived in the city, I would not have given money. When you have people approaching you every day, several times a day, scamming for money, you tend to get jaded. For good or for bad, some of that callous has come off now that I'm in the burbs. Something like the OP describes would be a rare occurrence.
