It's a sad day when a song title is the background on the tach!

So yeah...speedo and tach shunted off to the rim and almost all the real estate is now devoted to nav and entertainment.

OMG! Navigation shows highway, view from windshield shows desert with cliffs just ahead! Oh, no! Looks like a Thelma and Louise moment for BMW. Kinda like I felt looking at this ridiculous dash-trash.

I was just listening to Creedence's Green River when I looked at the fourth pic. There is "Green River" but I think it's supposed to be a name of a place.

As with the AMG's there's different modes which gives a different look to the instrument cluster. Old-school, classic, sport, race... The driver can choose how it looks and what's appealing to them. But I guess the cool thing with a digital dashboard is that I'm assuming it can be altered and updated electronically. |

Making the cluster not gimmicky isn't such a crazy idea! It doesnt cost anymore than in a $250k car! How many screens do you need to tell you what song you're listening to or where you're going? |

^Exactly !
But it doesn`t matter anymore, just a few years from now, you don`t need a cockpit, dash, rev counter or whatever counter, because we/you will be a passenger in your own car....... |

Info overload pure and simple.
They've effectively made the instrument panel useless. With HUD, I hardly look at the instrument cluster anyway, but it's sad to see BMW moving away from the great ergonomics that set them apart. Not happy about them getting rid of the knobs for temperature control either on the X5. Temp and volume should be knobs, its just more natural and intuitive. |

I honestly don't understand folks these days. Might be my age. If you like old school why not just buy old school. BMW needs to evolve, I've been in the brand now 10 years and I'm super excited on them embracing a more modern look.
