I had a 5 Series GT a few years ago, and it was a fantastic car. Riding on the 7 Series platform, it was one of the most comfortable cars I’ve ever had. Not as high as an X5, but with similar luggage space to the 5 Series estate, in a luxurious package, it was great.
Individual heated comfort rear seats, that reclined electronically, with a panoramic roof and rear entertainment, everyone loved being driven in it. I used to get a lot of positive comments about it all the time. I lost count of the number of people that said it looked loads better in the flesh than in pictures. I may be in the minority, but the 6 GT looks fantastic in the flesh (in the right colour). There’s one near me in black, blacked out grills, 21” wheels and factory tinted glass, and it looks incredible, with loads of road presence. Saying that, I always thought that the 3GT looked odd, and didn’t have any of the additional luxuries over the regular 3 Series that the 5/6GT had, which kind of defeated the object. |

for all the hating out there
I used to drive a 335xi sedan (prior to that an e92 335i coupe), and now have a son and a car seat, and the 335xi sedan just didn't have enough room in the back and had to keep adjusting the front passenger seat to back and forth depending on if I had someone in the front (and my son wasn't in the back). I considered a 5 series (even though I hate driving a bulkier car), and the rear leg room was still not that great (granted I was in the CPO market, and the latest 5 series still didn't have THAT much leg room. Then I get into the 335xi GT and then everything just made sense. The hatch over the trunk to store more stuff (strollers, bags etc), and the extra leg room in the back meant no more seat shuffling. The car seat fits right with plenty of space in the front for a normal human being.
Am I a very niche market for it - for sure. Is this thing fugly? I don't think so, and I have a 335 with the M-sport and it's still sure as heck fun to drive. Kinda like the automatic rear spoiler that comes up at 70mph. |

does this x3 have the same leg room as the gt did? if so sure. my wife used to drive a x5d, and I loved it.
can't believe all the animosity there is towards people who enjoy features of a certain model. the only advantage for me was the extra leg space in the rear. looks like the longer wheelbase needed the extra stability etc at higher speeds hence the spoiler i'm thinking? |

Everyone has their own needs and opinions but I loved my 2014 BMW 328 IX GT and my current 2018 640 IX GT. This shape is extremely versatile and the cars are give up very little for the benefits of a huge back seat and trunk. The perfect car if you cycle or ski for sport.

Wow...do you all not get it! I chose to have a 3GT and I'll miss it if they don't fix the 4 GC next time. A 3 Series up front and to drive, but with actual space for adults in the back and plenty of cargo, or room to fold down and carry bikes plus more cargo, which the F30-derived 4 GC did not accomplish. This was a great package with a very versatile hatchback. I am fine with the aesthetics (which the 3 does better than the 5/6GT) because living with it shows how well it works without having to drive a boxy, overly tall SUV. I hope BMW has improved the rear seat and cargo for the G20 4 GC or none of them will fill our needs.

...or at least a useful version of a 4GC, which needs a roomier back seat without compromising cargo space.

Have no clue why BMW needed Gran Turismo. It's ugly..

Because the sedans and wagons have small back seat leg room. Everything is a trade-off and the functional benefits far outweigh any appearance issues.

BMW 440i Gran Coupe
I can see why the BMW is going to discontinue the 3 Series Gran Turismo. Is because BMW never advertised it enough here in the States. It was a great concept, a little awkward looking, very Saab esk.
Another vehicle that they don't promote which is super cool and saw a couple nights ago out and about for the first time on the road was a BMW 440i Gran Coupe, it looks super cool and sleek. I checked it out in the showroom a while back. Definitely a sweet car, but expensive. |

Wont be missed at all. Why anyone would buy a GT over a Gran Coupe is beyond me.. If you needed more room, go with the X3/x4
