Ah, BMW, you suck for this; I was hoping this time around US-spec 2 Series was getting some amber rear LED turn signals, like the rest of the world but unfortunately, BMW designed two different lights and operations for each region.
Blinking red brake lights shared with the turn signals for the US models. And a separate from the brakes, amber turn signal LEDs for the rest of the world. . |

Love it. Just got a '21 M340 and as much as I love my 340, I wish I waited for this. Had an RSX Type-S, Evo X, 435 and M240 prior and the 240 was the best all around car I've ever owned. Although the Evo was a freaking blast the interior was just way too shitty.

Would you say room in the rear was 'at least the same' as the F22? I'd be expecting a tad more but you never know, the M Seats are of course bulky I'm quite surprised a launch car still has the cerium grey accents, personally I think it's a bit of a clash with the purple and the black from the Plus Pack (I think) would have looked better, especially with those wheels.

And it also says in the press release it's based on 3/4 series tech…

Also they're making the point, particularly if you read the press materials, that this is closely related to the 3 & 4 series. They are keen to emphasise this is a separate model to the 1-series (FWD apart from the M135i which has a different AWD system with Aisin gearbox) and 2-GC, which are based on the Mini platform (hence the Mini Works GP3), the same as the god awful 2 Tourer and Active Tourer which I don't think is sold in the USA. |

It's not really the "mini platform" at this point, it's BMW's/Mini's shared FWD architecture (FAAR, previously UKL). The 1er/2erGC/X1/2er Tourer share it at various evolutionary steps according to their SOPs.
The 2er Coupe is said to be based more on the Z4 (but enlarged between the b- and c pillars) than the 3er/4er, though all are on the CLAR RWD platform. |

I'm thinking the 230i is looking more like an M2 than the M240i does. Especially with the diffuser that doesn't wrap around and overall cleaner bumper lines. The M240i is looking a bit too busy especially with those sharper lines and added on fender bits.

It is definitely a good looking car but it's missing minor details which I'm sure is being saved for the LCI model, namely:
1) Headlights - Form-wise OK but could be improved inside the casing i.e. I want the blue laserlight accents from the current range incorporated in there somehow. 2) Front bumper - the triangular bits are too busy and look weird. Somebody posted 'shopped renders with the triangles removed and it makes a remarkable difference. 3) Break lights (tailights) 4) wrap around "Nappy" gloss black plastic in the rear diffuser area - It hate it. Carried over from the iX and it's a mistake IMO Other than that, the fundamentals are all there to make it great such as the form factor and side profile. It is a big step up from the previous gen. I'm expecting the new M2 will fix many of these issues. |

The point being this new G42 is off the same component set as the 3 & 4, which as you say is effectively what the Z4 is underneath (like previous gen Z3s & 4S before it) rather than being related to the 1 & 2GC. |

Definitely no Laserlights on offer from what can be seen, but here in the UK the M240i has the adaptive LEDs as standard. In fact there aren't many options I can see in the UK configurator I'd want, just comfort and tech packs. Don't want the sunroof or those slightly tacky M coloured ambient light panels! I think the Melbourne Red with the tan leather or the purple with black will do me |
