I watched the show for a couple minutes at a time, it's consistently not the best viewing. I missed the slap but I did see most of Will's acceptance speech. I was perplexed by the tears and then the Oscars logo going up near the end of his speech. After seeing the logo a few times, I wrote it off to the length of his speech then turned it off. Perhaps Chris crossed the line with the Jada jokes but Will has to understand that the Oscars is not the place to confront him.

Rock v Smith(s) - Part I - from 2016

In his opening monologue at the 2016 Oscars ceremony, Rock took a jab at Pinkett Smith after she posted a video in which she said she was boycotting the Oscars due to their lack of diversity.

"Jada said she's not coming. I was like, 'Isn't she on a TV show?' Jada's gonna boycott the Oscars? Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited!" the comedian quipped. Rock also poked fun at Jada's husband, saying she was mad Will hadn't been nominated for his role in Concussion.

"It's not fair that Will was this good and didn't get nominated. You're right," he said. "It's also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West!"

Just days after the jokes at their expense, Pinkett Smith addressed the monologue and essentially chalked it up to it is what it is.

"Hey look, it comes with the territory, we gotta keep it moving," she said at the time. "We got a lot of stuff we gotta handle, a lot of stuff going on in our world right now. We gotta keep it moving."

Edit: As I said before, Rock knows about their past, it was low enough to go after someone with a condition they have no control over………….but then to push it when you already have gone after each of them in the past and knows they don’t have a good relationship………..he (Rock) got what he was after finally.
But that's sort of my point. He's shown instances of emotional instability in the past - but it's after an incident like this that we're able to connect the dots and say it's not a shock. But to say those instances of emotional instability warrant a high alert situation from security is a stretch at best.

But specifically to security's lack of inaction -

Simply getting up out of the seat and storming the stage in and of itself is considered assault. The slap itself is considered battery. Keeping that in mind, are we suggesting Kanye West getting up on stage to take the mic away from Taylor Swift was also a staged event since Kanye was not met by security?

Or is it so hard to believe that celebrities, at celebrity events, are held to a different standard than a random fan at a concert?

So it’s ok for other men to bang his wife but wrong to make a joke of her? As already mentioned by TXSTYLE and other news outlets, he was laughing until she was obviously annoyed by it.

CR is a comedian and they do go out of line at times but jeez, an embarrassing moment for WS. CR handled it well by turning that event into a joke itself. IDK, maybe I’m wrong.

You are talking about perfect world things/how they should be. I’m talking about how they are in reality. I’ve already answered all of the above.

Embarrassing for all. Act like a bitch forever and then you are surprised somebody finally slaps you like one?

Someone insults man's woman, man is drunk, man slaps other man. Pretty simple equation. Big story since it involves celebrities and was televised. Meh. Probably would have been a punch if they were at a restaurant or something.

I agree that Chris handled this well. I love Chris Rock and if he wants to make a bad joke of anything, its his right. Will Smith has a right to get pissed off but he does not have the right to strike Chris. What is wrong with this world that this is not clear?

Guaranteed. Something something about not seeming to care when your wife tells you she’s being plowed by multiple men on national TV, but the hair thing is just too much something something.

Chappelle would have murdered him.
Yea this is what I can't figure out... sounds like Will and his wife have a whole hell of a lot of soul searching to do.

Sounds like a toxic marriage to me being held together by paperclips... I secretely think Jada is really a negative and crazy person. I don't think this is a Will thing to do... unless he is genuinely diagnosed as bipolar.

Lost a lot of respect for Will Smith. He ruined the night for himself and everyone else acting like a punk. He was laughing along with everyone else at this benign, mediocre joke, until he noticed Jada wasn't. In a Hail Mary attempt to preserve his manliness, he decides he now wants to protect her honor (after years of being cucked and hung out to dry by Jada herself... on her own talk show, of all places), and does this gangster bit pretending to be a hot-headed, take-no-shit alpha male? Fake rage. Would *loved* to have had someone like Dwayne Johnson up there instead of 'lil Chris, and I guarantee you Will would have had a very different cost benefit analysis of how to proceed. All this notwithstanding the fact that both Will and Chris are entertainment veterans and absolutely know without reservation that all of this banter is the price you pay for the fame, money and power...comedians WILL do bits on you, that is a fact, it's part of the landscape! CR not only handled the whole thing like a professional, he didn't pursue charges either, kudos to him. Even CR's so-called "jabs" at Jada in 2016 were really nothing severe....have you SEEN Ricky Gervais? If this is how thin-skinned and jaded (no pun intended) WS has become, then the outside world is not for him. And yes, Hollywood's double standards clearly highlighted here; security should have thrown his ass out for putting hands on someone.

I disagree. Dark humor is precedent at these award shoes. I'm sure he was laughing at everyone else's expense, but only when it became personal to him / his wife did it all of a sudden not become acceptable? Regardless of whether the joke is acceptable or not, physical assault is not a proportional response. He could've just yelled, instead he committed a crime in front of millions of people. What a moron.

Not only that...but absent evidence that Rock wrote that joke, a writer very well could have, he could've just slapped the messenger, what a POS. I loved Mike Lowery until today.

Wonder what Uncle Phil thinks of this. Also, this gives CR ammo for other gigs.

There’s a ton of things he could say about this slap that would gain more attention and further embarrass WS. Example, WS slaps like a lil’ bitch, he took his time picking up his skirt before approaching me, etc…

I wonder what would have happened if CR blocked the slap and he fought back? Interesting.

If you look at the pics, there's one where his initial reaction was to cock his fist with his right hand so he did think about it for a split half second.

He's intelligent dude. He knows taking that swing would cost him a great deal in endorsements and whatnot. He took the high rode and declined when approached by LAPD to press charges. I don't think he overstepped with that joke if I'm being honest. GI Jane reference would actually be a compliment. Regina King earlier literally had all the single men line up on stage so she could find a "boyfriend" and then said - "Will, you might as well get on up here too. I know you're married but Jada gives her blessings." Both Will and Jada laughed and played along. To me, referencing they are swingers and their relationship bullshit all of hollywood (and the world) are tired of hearing about? Is far worse of a "joke" than saying GI Jane 2.

Chris elevated his status and Will / Jada continue to sully theirs. End of the day, not my monkey. This is almost as dramatic as bimmerpost

This.

His wife is literally a predator. She slept with her son's friend an 18 year old when she was 47 who was going through a hard time in his life, using opioids, etc.

I just like the fact everyone now knows his wife is a pin cushion and anyone can have a ride. People knew before, but this incident made it 1000X more well known.

His kids are probably all fucked up because of her.
