Thank you so much for sharing, I love them both and hopefully will have the good fortune to have them both (well almost, as I can't get the M2CSL but my CS is close enough)

It's the same one that was at the Nurburgring for the 24 hour race. It looks good without the stripes in this video. In some pics it doesn't look as good without the stripes.

It's a tough call, I go back and forth on what I want to do.

The engineer explicitly says "sometimes." This is referring to ZF8's supposedly quicker kickdown in auto mode they have been advertising for years. M-DCT in sequential mode is twice as fast as any BMW iteration of ZF8s, also faster in full throttle upshifts even in auto mode.

Drive them back to back using the paddles, the difference is clear.

It is more than likely the non CSL G8x was made intentionally heavier, to make the special models more desirable. I do not see any technological showcase previously shown in the E92/F82 GTS; A 40hp bump from DME tune and a bunch of carbon panels do not deserve such recognition. This makes me think the car's main target audience is people who bought the KITH edition.

I sold my E60 M5 after 6 weeks. It gave me whiplash. Literally. SMG was only ever going to work on a track. In normal traffic it was horrendous.

I drive the last (and best iteration) of the M-DCT - the one in the F87 CS. Having driven it back to back to the ZF8 in the G8X Competition there is no comparison in shift response - the M-DCT wins every day. Note, this however is when the cars are driven in manual (my preferred style except for highway driving). As a pure auto, the ZF8 wins hands down.

There is a little more than that: suspension (lower springs and dampers), full carbon buckets, chassis stiffening, motor mounts, subframe mounts, lighter weight wheels, titanium exhaust, trans tuning. Not saying that's enough to invalidate your argument but hate it when people take a position without all the facts.

Stripes. Worse case scenario you can always take off the stripes.

The dct in m2, does a kickback feel , makes it feel like its shifting hard, your car jerks in sport, sport+ makes it really fun to drive at speed!
ZF8 in Sport+ in my 2021 X5MC does the same thing.

No way the standard models are intentionally heavier. This is crazy, it even affects things like CAFE. Not to mention, BMW probably makes much more money on the volume cars rather than the special editions despite the higher margins.

I do agree that the CSL is not very impressive regarding scope of changes.

I expect the 10% improvements in multiple fronts (weight, speed, power) will quickly will elevate this car to a deserved hero status. Provided the ride isn't brutal (super stiff suspension did the F82 GTS in) I am sure those who get one will be very happy with them. And from all accounts, M has learned its lessons - demonstrated with the suspensions on the M2 CS and M5 CS.

Its the first time that i say no to a CSL and prefer the CS. Maybe im biased but :

*S55
*CS Carbon hood looks way better and unique (bespoke)
*Carbon roof derived from the racecars , and still the only roof applied from a racecar to a road car and that makes it unique. (bespoke)
*Comes with a 6MT , i dont think the M2 CSL would be offered with it.
* Does not have that wing , id rather a ducktail and prob that would be offered but the project showed the M2 CSL had that wing , imagine it without the wing (last photo)

Yes , love its interior and its very close to the CS but id rather have the back seats just like any traditional BMW. Maybe for the same weight , since no roll cage.

And maybe thats it , thats why they chose the CS over it , and im glad they did!
