Man the new X1 is without a doubt the approximate size of a 2021 X3. Your wife will feel the squeeze after riding around in that X4, but I also came from an X4 and I have welcomed the smaller footprint... and the smaller but more efficient, and more comfortable, but tighter suspension. In retrospect and comparison, my X4 m40i was top heavy and sloppy. The U10/11 is a heat seeking missile.

Anyway, enjoy!

Glad she does, lucky for you guys… personally I hate it.
The only aspect of it can find anything positive to say about is the arrow/turn overlay on the nav

Can’t even choose the layout you want like you could w iDrive 7
(Main and secondary display) the previous version was infinitely more configurable, more responsive, faster to load, etc - and best of all codeable. Sorry don’t mean to turn your thread into a rant

I’ll be honest, I’d be more than happy enough with it as a LOANER. The OP’s wife isn’t driving it long term. You could really do way worse with a loaner vehicle.

I was referring to her liking the new idrive vs old.. saying I much prefer old.

As a person who is new to BMW, the older interfaces seem far less intuitive than iD9 no matter how configurable they are.

Similar thing happened to me last December. Ship was headed to NJ/NY Port. I saw they went back & forth the same route off of Long Island about 8 times over about 2 days until they got approval to dock. It was driving me crazy so I understand how you feel.
Hang in there.

It’s not allowed to dock due to scurvy onboard.

My x1 M35i arrived at the dealership Monday. I had tracked that thing obsessively and even drove out to see it that night when the dealer was closed. I was salivating to take delivery. It did arrive earlier than expected, but in the several times this has happened in the past, BMW has always taken my current car back, forgiven me the last payment and let me get my car.

This time, no go. My sales guy said the only way I could get "out of my lease" was to "roll" the final payment into my new lease. Yeah, my a$$ I will. I really want the car now, but I'm not taking it from BMW after almost 2 decades of continuous loyalty. I get it completely, a contract is a contract, not a problem, but they've always been super easy with one payment as if it weren't even the slightest of big deals. They've always seemed to want to get the car delivered ASAP. Now, apparently no go. If I were more spiteful, I think I could still take delivery now and just have two BMWs (and two payments) for a month or so but that is stupid, and I'd be getting one over on myself.

OK, whatever. It can sit there for 20 days or so until I make my next payment and have fulfilled my blood oath to BMW. I will drive my perfectly fine 330 m sport, not a problem. I'll still probably try to take delivery the moment I make that final payment, so technically I'd be giving them a car back that is mine for several more weeks, but at that point I am sure I'll be over being grumpy and mad and back to being super excited about my new car. Boo!

I think she docked this morning. We’re getting excited about our upcoming visit to Spartanburg for Performance Center Delivery!

Yep. Just waiting for it to get on a truck and travel the 2 hours to the dealership.

I am so excited for you. My car is “in the paint shop” for the rest of the plant’s end of the year shutdown, so hopefully I’ll get my car in early to mid Feb!

Say what!
Bro I got out of my 2020 X3 a year early, and then my 2022 X4... 6 months early! I then even got $5K in equity on the X3 that I used towards the X4. I would have gotten equity on the X4, but I had got rear ended and it had a car fax accident report that disqualified it from being a CPO.

Anyway, I NEVER got any sort of penalty from turning them in early. Someone at your dealership doesn't like you, and of course that's bullshit*t.

Not sure it’s a penalty as much as they (either BMW Finance or my dealer)
didn’t appear willing to release me from my lease early to take delivery of a new car. In any event, my sales guy called today to say they are now happy to forgive my last payment and let me take delivery of my new car Thursday or Friday. It still seems odd they suddenly went from “no way” to “merry Christmas,” but it works out I guess. I cannot possibly imagine why anyone at the dealer would dislike me, that seems strange. Aside from getting my complimentary maintenance done, they don’t hear much from me, I’d say I’ve been a trouble-free customer for quite a long time.

My friend I'm sure there's a better explanation than mine as to why why they weren't willing to release your lease 1 month early (ok - almost weren't willing to let you go 1 month early). I'm just dumbfounded at the contrast between our situations.

Ok so requiring you maintain the lease as signed wasn't a penalty, but relative to my situation it certainly feels like a penalty.

The only other thing I can think of is that the car you're turning in is worth a significant amount less than your residual?

This is a big enough deal that I think it warrants speaking to the dealer as adults do. Use me as a reference, informing them that you spoke with someone who got out of an X3 lease 1 year early, and then just 50 days ago got out of an X4 lease 6 months early. I even have two offers in writing from the dealership to turn my X4 lease in 6 months early towards the lease of a new X4. I mean I've purchased and financed my beloved.X2 so I won't be accepting... but we've gotten treated very differently.

FWIW I had a 36 mo lease on two 2022 X3s, which I extended for 1 month in Oct when it was originally supposed to be up, then again in Nov for another month while waiting for the X1s to arrive... so my new lease term was supposed to be 12/26... I turned them in on 12/14 and actually received about 40% of my last monthly lease payment back from BMWFS so they prorated it for the days remaining (in addition to the trade allowance from the dealer).
