In my opinion BMW dropped the ball in not having the traditional console mounted controller for Idrive 9. I think it very distracting having to look at the screen to make changes. In addition, there are the fingerprints all over the screen. I cant do anything about the lack of the controller but I thought I could add a screen protector. I decided on this one from Amazon (See below). I choose it because it came in two pieces and I felt that feature might make the installation easier. I also thought I could just install the piece covering the infotainment side since that is what is touched. I followed the instructions and installed the infortainment side screen. After the installation I thought it looked odd so I also installed the instrument cluster side. The down side for me is that I can see the seam where the two pieces meet. I will have to see if I can live with that. Maybe yes, maybe no.

Screen protectors tend to negate the anti-glare coating on the screen. Much as with phones.

You don’t notice until the sun strikes the screen at a certain angle and then suddenly you can’t read it, where you would have been able to without the protector.

On the other hand, fingerprints drive some people crazy. I guess you have to choose which of these things you find more annoying.

I just use one of these in the car. I bought them years ago for my parents iPad use as they were not so precise enough with their fingers.

I just keep one of these touch screen pens in the cup holders and use it for everything apart from the home button, which is down low and out of sight for my fingerprints

just finished up, and gave it a quick test drive around the neighborhood.

relatively straight forward and easy install. did it all with a snap-on ratcheting screw driver.

used the opportunity to give the bay a quick dusting off, surprised at how much actual dirt/dust accumulates in there, likely going to return back to stock condition for the winter to keep out salt.

it does sound much nicer, the way the car should have come from factory.

couldn't really tell if there's any difference in drive, it's very foggy out tonight.

**idk why the photo is sideways, and not sure how to fix it

I was having the same problem with the pictures. I read an article that said to take the picture in landscape mode (I have an iPhone) with the top of the phone facing towards the left. Since I have been doing this my photos post correctly.

This one is larger, brighter, stays on longer, rechargeable and has other adjustable features. It attaches magnetically to two brackets that mount inside the glove box with provided tape which I changed since it was not strong enough.
Thanks so much for the recommendation. I just installed one of the 2 sold by Amazon for $15 each.
I like the design. It’s flat (does not take up much *******, very bright & turns off in about 20 seconds & ez to recharge when needed. I set it to the AUTO setting. In low light it turns on immediately as I open the glove compartment even a crack. It turns on so fast that I wonder if it turned off when I closed the compartment. I’m sure it does because I tested the second light in my work room & it worked flawlessly.

Love it! I’m debating if I want to add sill plates to my X2 or if I just want to do PPF

She loves how they look. We will do PPF soon as well.

I meant PPF rather than the sill plates in that specific location. My concern is more the paint getting scratched up there rather than the aesthetic.

Hard for me to think of it as an esthetic when it's in view only by the driver or passenger when opening the door - and only if they're looking for it.

I said aesthetic because it’s a pretty trim piece rather than just doing clear PPF. The sill plates are pretty obvious with the silver design and M colors, so I don’t think they are that hard to miss.

Not anything specific for the car, but I’ve been working on some new various Apple Watch wallpapers

Finally received my wife’s TuxMats so I installed them for her after she got home from work.

Fitment is great and they hold up a lot better than WeatherTech.

What is Torment? Is that another floor mat brand that you tried after the Weathertech?

Haha! Sorry, I saw my error almost the same time you quoted my post. I meant “fitment”.

Haha.

If you just installed them today, what led you to believe that they hold up a lot better than WeatherTech?

I’ve used both for years in different applications. They don’t bow in and warp like WeatherTech mats.

Today I fitted the missing tie down hoops in the boot (trunk) I miss them from my previous cars and had to have them even at BMW prices. UK owners please note you only need 4 as I had two fitted already at the rear of the boot area. Simple 10 minute job maximum
