It really doesn't. I think the Panoramic display is the biggest improvement. I talked off the record with a lot of BMW executives, from board to chief designers, and learned more about why they wanted that display.

Buttons for ergonomics. This isn’t hard to understand…! I can’t tell you how aggravating it is to find the recirc button, for example, and for some reason BMW has evolved their HVAC to turn off the recirc multiple times in a 10 mile commute with many diesel trucks and busses. I find the screen distracting but have learned to live with it. The recirc thing makes my blood boil almost on a daily basis. It’s three taps on the screen when it used to literally be on the steering wheel. |

Can't wait for my wife to see how fast I am driving at all times!
Seriously though, as a previous owner of a 2006 Civic Hybrid these "gauge" placements suck. For people that don't want to drive it is fine, but in a performance vehicle a big no thank you. I am pissing in the wind, but I miss round physical gauges. I really want to go buy an F10 or E90, but I also don't want to deal with the maintenance. |

That steering wheel looks like something from a kids toy.
Who designs this crap. Is there nobody left at BMW with taste.

As a gen Z customer, I think it looks horrible. Way too gimmicky, really hope the steering wheel buttons are not capacitive touch. Are they releasing this only on new generations released by the end of 2025, or on all new cars manufactured by the end of 2025?

I’m a 68 year old baby boomer and I love the panoramic display. As long as the driver functions are in front of me, then putting things like weather, time, music tracks to the passenger side makes sense. I don’t use the iDrive controller knob because I prefer to touch the screen, probably from using an iPad for 12 years. Right now, this is just a display for CES. The vehicle will have a proper steering wheel. I’m looking forward to it. I bought an iPhone very early, a plasma TV when they first came out. My grandfather was the same getting the first color TV, first remote control TV, etc.

Isn’t this what Lincoln’s doing in their new vehicles?
I will say I bashed ID8 at first (and after brief experiences in loaner cars), but now having owned my car with it for a year it’s not so bad. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t take back buttons… Will try to reserve judgement of the functionality, but from the pure visual aspects it is a downgrade. It is one of the things I could never look past in a Tesla, the vast prairie of plastic in front of the driver. |

Every once in a while I get a survey from BMW asking about various things that are important in cars, etc. Interestingly the one that came a few days ago was asking how important I thought buttons in the car were. Certainly let them know my feelings who knows what they’ll ultimately land on but at least they’re thinking about it
Other topics they seem to be chewing on — sunroof vs removable panels, interior quality, EV demand, and PPF from the factory

Unpopular opinion, but I actually like where they're headed with the Panoramic Vision display. They will probably have to iterate more to figure out what information is most valuable to show, especially on the far passenger end. But it's a promising concept.
Not as keen on the funky shaped screen though. It gives everything a weird off balance feel. But I'll reserve judgment till we actually get our hands on a real production model. Perhaps the supposed ergonomic benefit will indeed justify the shape. The steering wheel looks like a PlayStation 5 version of the old Nintendo Wii Steering Wheel. Interesting, though I'm not immediately sold. |

So, I guess you can't say, but what would be the secret part about why they'd want that display?

They've completely jumped the shark. F-series and earlier for me, I want none of this video game crap in the car. Especially a BMW that's supposed to be a "driver's car".
