Analytical thinking is fundamental. Risk is expressed as likelihood x impact. Likelihood is EXTREMELY low. The impact is not high because relative to an ICE vehicle, replacement of the most major component (the engine) is similar (if not more) in cost. That puts the impact relative to ICE (which is what this discussion is about) as moderate at best.

But yea, sure, let’s abandon EVs because there’s a less than 2% chance that a major component will fail. For reference, here’s a $46,000 engine replacement on an M6 (not exactly a notably reliable engine):

As a current iX owner and having owned the last 3 generations of M3 and M5, I can't wait to try this thing. The iX is so well tuned from a suspension/driving dynamics perspective that I expect the eM3 to be pretty amazing.

You forgot about the third group: guys and girls who own an EV and they know how an i4, taycan and even a tesla model 3 are fun to drive and drooling for a 2 door electric M4 and at the same time really miss their E46 and E92s!

Thought the same thing. Looks, dare I say, compact.

Beyond how I feel about that particular model, my point was more that I don’t think that a EV should be an M, that’s it. M Cars are driver centric, there’s no way you’re ever gonna tell me that it feels the same to drive a six speed petrol engine compared to any electric vehicle.
Why don’t you rewind a few decades and say M cars shouldn’t have turbos? 🤔

No thanks! M cars need soul, driver engagement, and true exhaust sounds.

Some sort of AI EV AR supercar sounds like a nightmare.

Is BMW M still planning on having parallel platforms - ICE & BEV - for the next gen M3, or have they decided to abandon ICE, or will it be BEV and Hybrid options?

One thing to keep in mind is BMW does the electric driving experience better than anyone else except Porsche… our iXM60 is more fun and interesting to drive than either of our Teslas were.

Looking forward to the new platform. I think it will surprise us in a good way. The right answer on this is to have both an ICE M3 in the garage and the new BEV M3.

A turbo is an addition to an engine. It doesn’t replace it. Hybrids bring an element of electrification to an engine.

To me, going full electric removes a core element of the driving experience. That’s MY opinion obviously it doesn’t mean you have to consider it my man.

What does an M motor replacement cost?

Actually they were Formula E technology suppliers and that's how they perfected battery management and motor design.

And the cost of replacing a grenaded M engine can cost the price of a new car.

That's me.
I have a loaded i4 M50 and can't wait to see the electric M4. I'm the customer they are selling to. They guy who has owned multiple M cars and has already bought at least one EV.

My family has been through a total of 5 EVs and we still own 3 of them The oldest is about 3.5 years old and we've only had to buy tires, washer fluid and wipers.

I don't know why anyone doesn't make an electric coupe already?

That’s the only ICE car worth keeping around for a long time! You would not regret that.

Let the G84 vs ZA0 "Battle of the M3s" commence. I think this'll even top our F80 vs G80 war of the ages.
